My mother has not been invited to an "event" involving my father's family since they split. It's perfectly natural, really. Today, though, my Aunt Heather called my mom and said "We have to get together!", they'd been trying to for a while and hadn't been able to, but now she said that they had to. Apparently my cousin Sarah (she's eight, I think) recently said to Aunt Heather "What happened to that lady...I think I called her aunt? Can I see her? Wasn't she my aunt?".
I think that sort of defined this day.
