Bethlehem Trip-Friday, Dinner and ER Visit

May 19, 2008 13:49

Yeah, wasn't that a teaser I posted earlier?

Friday I was promptly up at 9am. Way to early for me. Got Ayla all packed up and I finished packing myself. She was not happy about being woken up early and stuffed in a cage. Anyways, I hurried off to Mom's house and unpacked the cat. Afterwards, I dumped a whole bottle of windshield wiper fluid in my car as I was totally out. Then, I headed to Auto Zone to get new wipers. My winter ones had bit the dust. Afterwards, I was off to AAA to get a membership in case something happened on the way to Bethlehem. However, I was irritated when they said the membership wouldn't kick in until Saturday. How stupid was that? I needed it for Friday!! Word of advice, get the membership the day before you leave. Left to fill up my tank, and then I hit the road.

Jumped on the highway at exactly 11am. Perfect.

I-79 was uneventful down to I-80 except for the lone cop sitting up on a hill that I didn't see until it was almost too late. Luckily he didn't move from his perch.

I-80...the most boring and uneventful part of the trip. Did I mention it rained the entire way from Erie to Bethlehem? Not bad, but passing trucks really sucked. How would you like to spend 5 hours on a road that was straight and only got interesting around State College?

Briefly talked with Phillips on the way down. I figured if I drove by his house he'd be pissed if I didn't at least try and stop. However, Becky wouldn't let him leave on Sunday to see me, so at least I attempted. Ended up getting into Bethlehem about 4:30pm. Missed Sam's one street only because he didn't tell me it was the second light that I was supposed to turn at. Turned around and quickly found his house. Got a big hug from him and then the rest of his family.

Sam's father is a mini version of Sam. He's just as tall as I am, or a tad bit shorter. He's a bit quiet, but I liked him immeditely. Shirley, Sam's mom I loved. Just normal parents like a family is supposed to be. I briefly met Chris, Sam's brother. He worked all weekend and pretty much stayed hidden down in the basement.

We all packed into the car for dinner at the Olive Garden. It was a wonderful meal. I had their 5 cheese stuffed rigatoni with saugage. Of course couldn't finish it all. Had a chocolate martini and a margarita there too.

After dinner back in the car we went, and I noticed my eyes starting to hurt. Rubbed them a couple of times, and then we stopped at Redners so Sam could get batteries for the airbed. Got home, and my right eye was really bothering me so I took out my contacts. It felt a tiny bit better, but then I noticed that there was an eye lash stuck. Got it out, and definitely felt better. We started to look at pictures of Sam when he was younger and then pics from the last cruise. I rubbed my eye again and boom, it just hit. I couldn't see well out of my right eye. When I finally pried my eye open and looked in the mirror, there was a film over my eye like a second eye lid. You know, the kind frogs have when they go under water. It was like I was looking through bifocals.

Sam was really worried about it and me, so it was decided that he would take me to the ER. Great way to spend my first night with my boyfriend huh? The ER nurse was a bit freaked out, because she had never seen that before. The ER doctor however just had be lay down, numbed my eye with drops, put a dye in my eye and held up a blacklight to it. Saw that I had a couple of abrasions and bruises. He swabbed out the film that was covering my eye, I had a saline shower, and was given ibprofin and an ointment. Boy did I feel better. My eye was completely red like a cherry. There were no whites to my eye. The doctor threw a curve ball though. He said I would have to a tetanous shot if I hadn't had one in over 10 years. I dodged a bullet because I fibbed and said I had. Well technically it was 10 years exactly. The summer of 98 I had my tetanous and Hep C shots. All said and done, I was in and out in less than an hour.

I got the whole wrist bracelet and everything. Given discharge papers and instructions on what to do. They almost suggested that I not drive home on Sunday, but I needed to anyways. The ointment they give me plus the abrasions causes my right eye to be blurry. It's interesting. There's a pressure in the corner almost constant. It's why I'm currently not at work right now. It's still pretty red, and blurry. I'm also not allowed out in the direct sunlight until Tuesday. Good thing it was cloudy the whole trip.

Sam drove home and we went to bed almost immeditely. Sam slept on the airbed and I got to sleep in his bed. His blinds in his bedroom sound like rain hitting my windows here at my apartment, so I slept pretty well that Friday night.

bethlehem, sam
