One last random thing...
Do you know what is really shitting me at the moment?? Every time I turn on the news there is some presenter saying in this sad voice that Van Nguyen is still going to be executed in Singapore. Don't get me wrong, it's a very sad thing for all involved. And before anyone starts at me - I am terribly ignorant as to the details and facts of the case and that's not what I'm commenting on. My annoyance is that the media keeps reporting the news as if Singapore was going to grant clemency, and then decided not to.
I've got nothing against Singapore, it seems to be a place where you obey the rules and everything's cool, but if you break them you're fucked. Fair enough Singapore, you've stated your rules and the consequences for breaking them. This guy broke them for whatever reasons, and he's going to die. It's very sad but it's not exactly a surprise, as if Singapore went 'hey man trafficking a fuckload of heroin used to be cool here, but guess what? five minutes ago we made it illegal, so bad luck for you, hahaha'.
So WHY is the fucking stupid media carrying on as if we're being newly let down every day after there being hope that Singapore will relent to our pitiful nagging?? From what I have seen, Singapore has never faltered in its stance on this issue, it's never given any hope that there will be clemency, it's a done deal. I keep seeing very patient officials on the news re-explaining to us twats that these are their rules, they have their own reasons for upholding them, the laws are there to protect the people of Singapore and not Australia, and they're not going to change them. Does anyone NOT understand this? I thought it was pretty fucking clear. I'm not saying that we shouldn't ask for Van Nguyen's life to be spared, no I am not saying that we should just let him die without even trying, but I am saying that we shouldn't be surprised when our whining and nagging changes nothing!! *points* THAT MEANS YOU MEDIA!!!
I mean, I suppose I can see that the media and government officials need to be appear as though they are still trying to do something about it instead of just giving up, but WHY ALL THE FAKE SINCERITY??? That's what shits me the most.
I'm so fucking sick of hearing sympathetic and saddened newsreaders breaking the news in pathetically syrupy voices to us poor shocked Australians that Singapore hasn't changed it's mind every.fucking.day. SINGAPORE IS NOT GOING TO CHANGE IT'S MIND YOU IDIOTS AND IS UNDER NO OBLIGATION TO DO SO!! SO STOP ACTING ALL SHOCKED AND SUPRISED EVERY BLOODY DAY AND START REPORTING SOME ACTUAL NEWS IN A RESPONSIBLE AND INTELLIGENT MANNER!! Every day it's the same thing with these people... even my goldfish have evolved beyond the usual 'oh look, a castle.... oh look, a castle.... oh look, a castle' mentality.

I guess that my argument is not an ethical, legal or political one, it's just a whole big messy pile of ANGRY. But I feel much better now.
