Sitrep

So i decided i'd stop vicariously leeching the life from all your posts and give something back. Here, then, I present Dougal: A Sitrep.

What have I been up to? Well, for the last 3 months of last year I was in Berlin, learning German in a language school by day and generally hanging out at night. It was great. I was going to stay, but realised that
a) I wanted to stay there and keep going to college because it was the safe option, something to do, that didn't really get me anywhere
b) I missed London and wanted to give life here another try
c) finding a flat in Berlin in late December is almost impossible.

So i came home.

How's it working out? Well, good, actually; early January saw me completing a UCAS application with a good (so i'm told) statement and a positively glowing reference from an old teacher. I'm hoping to read Linguistics, somewhere in London; no interviews yet but the timeframe is long. Cross fingers please. I'm looking for something to do in the meantime and am considering a TESOL / CELTA course, as a good way to get me back into the studying mentality, a good talking point at interviews and an all round cool thing to do. It also would involve conquering one more fear (teaching - pretty much the last great fear left, having conquered the dark and spiders a while ago, and heights early this year, see below). Any advice, anyone?

How am I? Well, mostly good. House is great, friends are lovely, even if i don't see half of them much, family is ok. Have recently totally got into rock climbing in a big way - it's bizarre, but having never been too confident in my physical prowess, it's fantastic to be able to actually achieve stuff that requires strength and coordination. I'm actually putting on muscle, would you believe! :P Apart from that, not much going on; Currently suffering from that common affliction that affects people like me on the run up to Valentine's Day (6 years single this year, ho hum) but really things could be a lot worse.

So yeah! Basically pretty positive with a slight side order of emo (or, well, goth, take your pick). Hope you are all doing well. I read all your entries, but you know me, I tend not to write stuff unless I've got something useful to say, so you won't see any 'aww' or 'yay's unless specifically required.

Take care, next update as soon as I find out what is happening with Uni.
