I'm bothered by Kaufmann too. He's from Silent Hill, worked in Alchemillia Hospital, and was the big shot there. When we got the lead on where White Claudia might be trafficked from, thanks to Harry trying to send back for more, the Feds have been put on the case. Kaufmann somehow has an alibi for everything, and not a lick of evidence on him, which I take as even more suspicious.
Silent Hill's basically Maine's equivalent to the Bermuda Triangle. Plenty of unsolved mysteries there, particularly the sunken ship. But other than that, there's a death cult in the city, and I'm fairly certain they manufacture the drug White Claudia, which is exclusive to the region. It's immensely powerful. Causes severe, extended hallucinations that acid and the like couldn't even dream of.
As for Harry, he's an unfortunate victim in all of this. A couple of years ago, when I was still a cop, I pulled him from a car wreck. He survived, his daughter didn't, and that just pulled hell on him. Somehow, they sent him to Alchemillia and kept him there, instead of sending him down to a Hospital in Portland, where he lived. I'm certain they drugged him with White Claudia while he's there. It's a severely addictive drug. Harry has been going through withdrawal for awhile.
Other than that, Harry's an author. Nothing big time. He's a normal guy in bad circumstances.
Sounds like he's a man in a powerful position. He's got skill in playing dumb, to boot. I had a brief chat with him. Says he came here due to a patient's letter, and it sounds like that very patient is Harry.
Death cult, yeah. Mike called it the Order. Funny how he knows the name of it. I doubt he's actually part of the cult, though.
Seems like this Harry guy's got the luck of a black cat born on Friday the thirteenth. Sheesh. Anyway, I got asked by Travis that someone keep an eye on this Harry guy. I don't have the time myself unfortunately, but you already know him. Think you could keep a closer eye on the bad luck cat?
My theory is, Alchemillia Hospital is a pushing point for the drug, and Kaufmann was the main distributor. When the Feds finally came around, he'd easily be able to shift evidence onto the nurses. There's not a chance all that trafficking would be able to happen without him noticing. So no, I don't trust him.
We have a patient here who I'm fairly certain is one of the cultists - goes by the name 'Pyramid Head'. He's extremely volatile. Calls my daughter 'Mother', even, and asks for her to tell him who to judge, or what to do. Trying to get any information out of him would be hell, because I don't think he has the same mental process as we do.
I have some access into what's going on in Silent Hill now thanks to my contacts back on the force, but it's limited - the FBI doesn't just let anyone get in on an investigation, after all. The most I have are my own files from when I was investigating the cult while I was still a cop, and what my daughter might remember from being in that... orphanage. She doesn't like talking about it, and I don't blame her. It could trigger flashbacks, episodes, and the like.
Keeping a closer eye on Harry is pretty much one of my constant priorities. I'm always on it.
Not just the Pyramid Head guy. One of the therapists, Vincent, knows about the cult. I'm kind of sketchy about him. This dame with about a thousand personalities in her brain named Alessa knows about it, too; her ma's part of the cult, specifically, but her personalities seem pretty familiar with it. Not too keen on chatting with 'em, though.
Kind of wanted to poke at ol' Triangle Head anyway; he knows Sunshine somehow, and I wanna dig on how.
If you learn anything else about this White Claudia business, lemme know. I'll see if I can dig something for you in return.
Sounds like a good idea. Travis is under the impression a certain someone is slipping your pal some drugs.
Eh, I'm taking what I can get; honestly, though, Alessa and her gang of head-pals just kind of piss me off.
James Sunderland. About as cheerful as a storm cloud, just fell off the roof lately, and someone took a fancy to carving numbers into his back. I'm pretty ticked at that, to boot.
Now I'm extra super special curious. I'll make a few calls, see if I can dig out anything else on Mike. I got some suspicions on him already.
One of them has the name 'Cheryl', the same name as Harry's daughter, which is why I highly recommend keeping them separate.
Yeah. James had been doing better, too, which just makes it worse.
I've already got a hunch on that. What you're probably going to find is how little there is to find. I've got a feeling he's made sure to manipulate the records to make sure his past is completely clean. And again, I'd find that to be the most suspicious part of all, especially in Silent Hill.
I haven't talked to Cheryl yet, but I know that's one of the personalities. I'll see if I can tell her to watch it, but Alessa is as fussy as they come.
He was pretty bummed to see his buddy get shut into solitary to boot. These Silent Hill people just seem to beg for bad times without even trying. Damned shame.
Everyone's got some dirt, even when they think they covered their tracks. Something's there; we just haven't found it yet. Getting a search warrant to pick on Mike seems slim to none, though.
Unless you've got contacts in Maine, it'll be a pain in the ass, and believe me, with the low crime rate there, I doubt you've had much of a reason to have formed any there before.
Of course, this brings to the fact that you're more than the files say too. 'Salesman', huh?
Quiet places make it easier for crime rings. They specialized in expensive paintings in particular. Probably not much in the way of things in Maine, but they had a few spots to tuck themselves under.
Heh. Guess you got assigned to more high profile crimes, working in New York. Back in Maine, a single murder can stay on the headlines for half a year.
...By the way. You wouldn't have happened to have grown up watching a lot of old movies and listening to Jazz records, would you?
It was the life. Kind of pegged myself to spend the rest of my life as a cop, but you know how it is; plans go take a powder. Anyhow, I see what you mean about Maine; pretty scarce, nice and quiet. Sounds like a place I'd go nuts in.
My old man was the type to watch the old black and white detective flicks. Not much for talking on the childhood, personally, but yeah; lingo's a giveaway, habit I'm not up to kicking.

Sunshine?
Yes, and the only possible suspect is Kaufmann. Getting ahold of White Claudia isn't easy, and he's the closest to the source.

Haven't been trying too hard to hide it, but didn't feel like bringing it up if it wasn't necessary. Used to be part of the fuzz in the Big Apple.

I see. Well, I'll give you what I can find on White Claudia and the other problems stemming from Silent Hill.

Good to know. Thanks.
