Title: Suitors Before Sunrise
Universe: Tapestry
Characters: Thalioni (and suitors)
Word Count: 547

Summary: It's not easy dealing with suitors-- even when they're not your own.
Notes: Written for the 'daybreak' challenge, and also written with a great deal of embarrassment. (XD IT'S BEEN AGES)

Once upon a time, there had been a marvelous thing called "sleeping past the break of dawn." It was a magical state where a person could lie peacefully in their warm bed and not be disturbed by trivial things, such as birds chirping, or sisters talking in their sleep, or--

Lovstruck idiots.

"BEFORE THE SUN APPEARS IN THE SKY TO ILLUMINATE YOUR BEAUTY EVEN MORE, LET ME SAY I'LL LOVE YOU FOREVERMORE-- no, wait, I already said more... I'LL LOVE YOU HALF PAST FOUR!"

And that makes Suitor number... eight. Points for rhyming, I suppose, even if it really makes no sense... will he still love her at five o'clock?

She could hear someone coughing, and knew that the next Prince-from-a-foreign-land-who-was-most-likely-banished-as-a-result-of-his-brothers'-jealousy was ready to try his luck and attempt to win the hand of her elder sister, Madison.

"OH, MADISON! YOU MAKE ME A MAD SON-- but not angry, of course, but MAD WITH PASSION FOR YOUR... FLASHIN'."

I will not laugh, I will not laugh, I should respect the fact that he's brave enough to howl his lungs out at four in the morning...

"MADDIE, YOU ARE NOT A FATTY..."

Okay. This is ridiculous. Thalioni reluctantly abandoned her comfortable bed, tossing her dark plait over her shoulder and glancing over at her sleeping sister. Freilana had accidentally pricked her index finger on an enchanted toothpick and had fallen into a deep slumber. Given the girl's nature to blunder into every single curse that existed and emerge from it with her radiant smile intact, Thali wasn't too worried about this newest spell; in fact, she was almost envious of the fact that warbling men standing at the foot of the castle couldn't rouse her.

The same fact was true for Madison, who had slept through thunderstorms, earthquakes, fires, and the occasional shrieking vortex of swirling magic that the wizards experimented with every Wednesday. It was almost a shame that the suitors' ardent and amorous efforts had to go unnoticed, but that didn't mean that Madison's other sisters had to suffer for it!

Therefore, Thali only felt a little regretful for opening her window and neatly dropping a few eggs onto the singers' heads from six windows up (and the regret was mostly for Winifred's hen, Ophelia, who could only lay a couple of eggs a month and didn't like to see them go to waste).

The splutters and indignant screams told her that she'd hit her targets, and she grinned, brushing off her hands.

"Now, boys, I'm sure we've gone over this before. Madison won't wake up for another five hours, and you're bothering the rest of us, so please go away and let me sleep until I can actually see the sun."

"Damned wretch!" One man shouted, emboldened by the nods and murmurs of his companions. "How dare you keep us from expressing our love? You're a monster!"

"And you're tone-deaf. Now go away."

With grumbles and half-hearted curses, they eventually obeyed and the morning was quiet once more.

Until the THUD above her head told her that Teresina was up and practicing her footwork.

Thali groaned and slumped against the window, listlessly staring at the gray sky and wondering if she'd ever get just one day where she could wake up AFTER the sun did.

kaeruchan, submission, outdated: daybreak
