Ryan-Sophie bunny challenge:
A plot bunny posted by
yessi_5 has spawned off a mini-challenge to see how many different ways one plot bunny can be written by different writers. The plot bunny is:
Little Sophie asks Ryan, why he doesn't call their parents "Mom" and "Dad" like she and Seth do, but "Kirsten" and "Sandy". Ryan tries to explain. (Maybe Sandy and/or Kirsten eavesdrop?)
The stories it has spawned are as follows:

Soccer OUCH!
based on the plot bunny submitted by anne35:
Ryan gets hurt at a soccer or baseball game/practice. Nothing too serious
but still hurt. Due to his lack of self-worth and upbringing he doesn't tell
the Cohens because he doesn't want to bother them or doesn't think it is
worth telling. Sandy or Kirsten have to find out that Ryan got hurt through a
soccer-mom newpsie.

When God
Closes A Door based on the anonymously submitted plot bunny:
Instead of having broken-up with AJ Dawn is still living with him and has
him come to the reconciliation dinner with her at the Cohens. AJ, of course,
should be rude and possibly drunk and at some time during the course of the
dinner hit Ryan in front of the Cohens.

The Camaro
based on the plot bunny submitted by anne35:
In Season Three the episode where Ryan explains the toy car to Sadie he
tells that sad little story about how he and Trey would play with the cars to
get their minds off what was going on in the next room. Did anyone ever write
a fic showing young Ryan and Trey doing that? I can't believe one hasn't been
written but I couldn't find one.

May You
Find Some Comfort There based on the plot bunny submitted by
millstone1005:
I was just watching 3.10 The Chrismukkah Bar-Mitzvakkah last night.
Remember how Kirsten mentioned that she and her mother had made a certain
ornament and her father had said it was his favorite, and insisted upon
hanging it himself first thing every Christmas? Wouldn't it be cool if
somebody wrote a story about the Nichol family Christmas with young!Kirsten
and her mother and father (and maybe baby Hailey), featuring the
above-mentioned memory of Kirsten's?
- anne35 has posted a story Exact Words
( part 1,
part 2)
based on her own reclaimed plot bunny:
Season one, set around the time of "The Outsider" minus insane Donnie and
more fluff than angsty. What if Ryan was more of a normal teen-ager and
getting a little bored (we know he went to parties and drank in Chino). So
what if at the restaurant some other waiters asked him to go out after work.
Cohens never set a curfew so he stays out until midnight no-one says anything
so the next time he stays out later and so on. At some point the parents say
something about his late hours but not really lay down the law (I always
thought they were a bit nervous at first about parenting example "the talk"
in The Perfect Couple)Anyway Ryan basically ignores this until he finally
does something that "breaks the camels back" and Kirsten and Sandy have to
discipline him. It would be great if Ryan also whined like a teen-ager when
punished mentioning that just a few weeks before when he lived his mom he
got to stay out as late as he wanted.

Chop Sticks based on the
plot bunny submitted by anne35:
In "The Heights" Ryan was the only member of the family using a fork, but
by "The Way We Were" he had learned how to use chopsticks. Has a story been
done where someone teaches Ryan how to use Chopsticks? If not, it could be
a nice story involving the Cohens+1, especially if it was a cute little
bonding moment between Kirsten & Ryan.

which matches the plot bunny submitted by dogsbody01:
I thought of another one:Ryan Atwood,nude model.
It could be something like, he's in college had some unexpected expenses,
and rather than ask the Cohen's for help.Ryan bravely bares all, for an art
class.;)
- brandywine421 has posted a story called
Seth Makes A New Friend
( Chapter 1,
Chapter 2,
Chapter 3)
based on the plot bunny posted by anne35 where Sandy wasn't Ryan's
public defender.

The Tempest
based on the plot bunny submitted by dunbaby:
It's not that I don't like the pool house -- because I do, really. But,
I don't like how living in the pool house separates Ryan from the family.
If anything bad ever happened in the middle of the night, the Cohens would
have no idea. Now, I have read lots of great fanfic where it was to
everyone's benefit that Ryan lived in the pool house (two of my favorites
being "Spiral" by Brandywine where Ryan saves the Cohens from a fire and
"The Accidental Hero" by Cheekymice where Ryan gets the jump on some
robbers). I love that, but I would love to see a story where living in the
pool house--being separated from the family is to Ryan's detriment.
What if a situation arose where something bad happened to Ryan because he
was in the pool house? It could be a fire, an earthquake, a storm, robbers...
whatever. The point is that Ryan gets hurt and the Cohens feel bad.

Assumptions
based on the plot bunny submitted by dogsbody01:
Caleb says something really hurtful about Ryan, in front of both Kristen and him. Her response is to treat it as a joke, and Ryan wonders if he should start packing.

Stalker Ryan
based on the plot bunnies submitted by indigorayne:
(1) Ryan, dressed all in black with binoculars and a camera, is heading out and Sandy asks him where he's going and he says to stalk Taylor. (2) Similar to the one above but he has Sandy make him sandwiches to take with him.

based on the plot bunny submitted by millstone1005:
Frank falls off the wagon, makes the rounds of the bars on the wrong side of town, eventually ends up at the bar where Ryan lived/worked, they call him to come get him, Ryan and his father get into a fight and Frank hits Ryan.

The New Start based on the
plot bunny submitted by millstone1005:
Ryan is a cousin. In this scenario, Dawn is related to either Sandy or Kirsten, maybe a first cousin (so Ryan would be Seth's 2nd cousin). [...]

Family based on the plot bunny
submitted by indigorayne:
Daniel is a teen or young adult and has heard all his life that his father is violent and that is why his mother doesn't want him around Daniel, for his protection. Daniel decides to find him - to confront him, maybe he has a chip on his shoulder or maybe he's just curious (reason is up to the writer). When Daniel finally meets/confronts/spies on Ryan(again writer's choice) instead of the violent man his mother portrayed he sees a loving, patient, involved husband/father.
Prefer but not necessary that he be married to Taylor.
He and his wife are raising at least one foster/adopted child and at least one biological child. As I believe Sandy said "the more the merrier".
