I recently watched The Twelve Kingdoms/Juuni Kokuki anime and really, really enjoyed it - I'm planning on reading the light novels too. I have been wanting to watch it for awhile because I had seen comments saying that it was similar to The Vision of Escaflowne, but other than the fact that both have fantasy elements and involve a high school girl being transported to another world, I feel they are very different stories. I have to agree with comments that Juuni Kokuki is better than Escaflowne because it has a higher level of character development, and also a more detailed world. Escaflowne does have the edge in the sound department though...it has an absolutely amazing soundtrack - Juuni Kokuki's soundtrack is nice, it has a very typical lovely Asian instrumental sound to it - but it pales in comparison to the magnificent soundtrack Yoko Kanno created for Escaflowne. Escaflowne is always going to be slightly more beloved by me though for sentimental reasons - it was one of the first animes I watched and loved :)
Anyway, I searched on ebay and a few other sites and only found disappointing small amount of doujinshi, but then when I searched on yahoo japan I was thrilled to see that there are many The Twelve Kingdoms doujinshi available. In fact, too many, I felt overwhelmed LOL!
I wanted to buy Youko-centric doujinshi, and she seems to be the most featured character in terms of doujinshi, so it's going to be really easy for me to collect doujinshi focused on her. I would also like some doujinshi focusing on Shoryuu (Naotaka Saburou Komatsu), Rakushun, Shoukei and Suzu. As far as shipping goes the lack of romance in The Twelve Kingdoms means I'm not really that shippy about any pairing in the series but I'd like to collect some Shoryuu/Youko, the two are among my favorite characters and I think they would make an amazing 'power' couple. Also, Rakushun/Youko friendship focused doujinshi because their friendship is just awesome. Even though I'm not keen on a romantic relationship between Keiki/Youko (kirin/human ships are not my thing at all), there seems to be some really nice doujinshi featuring the pairing so I guess will collect some of those too...

This turned out to be a short story, not a doujinshi! I don't regret buying it though because the art on the front and back covers are beautiful.

There are two different artists featured, one half is by Kori Asahina and the other by Ayame Shien. I didn't like Ayame Shien's half (I'm not a fan of the way she draws the male character's eyes) but Kori Asahina's half is nice enough.

The art can be slightly awkward at times, but it's never bad - there's something interesting about the way the artist draws characters.

I purchased all four of these in a group (one auction) at yahoo japan (seller: tangupongu) for 1,100 yen. The total cost after fees was USD $26.25 ($6.56 per doujinshi).
I am probably going to avoid buying from this seller (tangupongu) in the future. The doujinshi are in good condition, but they have a faint smokey smell to them that annoys me. It's not very strong, you can only smell it slightly, but it's enough to be off-putting for me. The seller did have a warning saying that they do smoke in their house, but they keep their doujinshi in a non-smoking room. Hopefully now the doujinshi are away from smoke they will 'air out' and lose the smell - I'm going to follow the instructions from this ebay guide so hopefully I'll soon have normal smelling doujinshi.
edit: After months of airing the doujinshi out, I can confirm that the smell is 99% gone. The only way I can smell it is by putting my nose right next to the paper and sniffing, and then I can smell a faint smokey smell. Obviously I'm not going to hold a doujinshi right up next to my face when I'm looking at it so really the slight lingering smell is no problem. To remove the smoke I put the doujinshi in a sealed container with cedar wood chips for around 2 months, then after that I removed the wood chips and put a bag of popuri in with the doujinshi for a few more months.
edit: I'm going to sell these because while the art is ok (I really like the front covers, the art inside is average/nice, but not really a style that I love, the lines are quite sharp and bold), Shoryuu treats Youko in a really forceful manner which I'm not a fan of. Also, even though two of these doujinshi were not labelled as 18+ by toranoana I've noted them as being 18+ because there are scenes which are not safe for all ages such nudity, and sexual activity - it's not on the level a hentai doujinshi, but it's definitely not safe for all ages.

It's kind of funny that it ended up being exactly the same price as the other auction which was running at the same time! The total cost after fees was USD $17.80 ($4.45 per doujinshi) - even though the yen price is the same as the group of four I purchased above, this group was a little cheaper because since I purchased from the same seller, I only had to pay the wire fee once, and the internal shipping in Japan was less since all 8 doujinshi were mailed together.
edit: There are some really cute, nice moments between Keiki/Youko, but I'm going to sell these because like I mentioned before, I'm not a huge fan of the art, it's ok, but not really appealing to me...since I'm not really a fan of Keiki/Youko there's no point me keeping doujinshi featuring them unless I love the art. I don't have much room for storing doujinshi so unfortunately I'm going to have to let these go. Getting rid of doujinshi isn't something I like doing, because chances of me getting my money back from selling them is pretty low...since I live in Australia most people don't want to buy from me unless the doujinshi are really, really cheap because shipping is so much :/
So I wish I didn't have to sell because it's a financial loss, but I just can't afford to let storage space be wasted...luckily these doujinshi were cheap, so I don't feel too guilty about the money I spent on them.
