Smashing Pumpkins Reunite (Sort Of)

This is like that time when Paul and Ringo revived the Beatles. Oh wait, that didn't happen...yet. But another band you may have heard of is reuniting, sort of. According to Billboard.com, Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin have signed a management deal under the Smashing Pumpkins name, and are set to start working on the first new Pumpkins album in six years.
As of now, guitarist James "I Heart Annie" Iha and original bassist D'arcy "The Great One" Wretzky have not joined the party. D'arcy's replacement, Melissa Auf der Maur, is not involved yet either, but she graciously told MTV News, "The coolest thing would be if D'Arcy was around, but I don't know where she's at and I don't think [Corgan or Chamberlin] do either. But I feel very comfortable being second best...My services are there for [Corgan] whenever he needs them."
Touring, of course, will likely follow the album. Smashing Pumpkins were previously rumored to be headlining Coachella (Tool is an adequate replacement, right?), and now the grapevine is suggesting they will play Lollapalooza this August in the band's native Chicago. However, MTV News quotes a mysterious "source" denying the Lolla rumor.
Last year, on the same day his fabulously successful (a whopping 69,000 copies sold, according to SoundScan) solo effort TheFutureEmbrace came out, Corgan announced plans to reunite the Pumpkins via a full-page ad in the Chicago Tribune. In December, Corgan left the following cryptic message on his MySpace page: "The surprise I have in store for you all will be announced soon enough....hold on to your horses. Afterall, good things surely comes to those who wait....Don't you just love the suspense?".
