A couple of hours later, Jensen's finishing up the last of his paperwork in the break room, and even if it's been a godawful evening, he's really glad Jared was around. He's contemplating getting her appreciatory flowers, or possibly some sort of coffee gift certificate, when she hops up on the table next to his files, wearing balloon animal scrubs and some hospital slippers.
"So I was thinking," she says, with a grin that Jensen doesn't really recognize, "you're probably too tired to drive home."
"I was going to crash in an on-call room for a couple hours," Jensen admits.
"Or you could come crash at my place," Jared suggests, with a slightly bigger grin. "The on-call room is great, but one of your options includes morning sex and pancakes. And just so we're clear, I make unbelievable pancakes."
"Uh," Jensen manages, because - his life. He's pretty sure it's unfair for things like this to happen when he's been awake for two days straight.
"Or I could have totally misread the signals, and you could forget that offer," Jared says, finally, after an extended pause on Jensen's part, and he should probably put his thoughts together, but leaning up and kissing her seems like a much better plan.
She tastes like chapstick and coffee, her mouth warm underneath his, and she finally fists a hand in the collar of his scrubs and pulls him in, it's everything he's been thinking about for the past month.
"I really like pancakes," Jensen manages, finally, when they've both pulled back to breathe, and Jared pulls back, laughing.
"Pancakes it is," she says, and heads toward the door, waiting for him to follow.
