The fiery hells of the internets opened up yesterday and swallowed my --rather ancient and cranky--desktop computer. (I'm writing on my laptop at the moment.) I got a super-awesome malware that took eight hours for me to get around enough to kill it, hopefully permanently. As thanks for my hard work, it fucked up most of my icons/executables before leaving. (As in, they launch to nowhere and do not run.)
But....I have backups of my most important stuffs. And I don't think the computer is broken beyond repair, considering I got the things I wanted most to work again. I'm still not going to hook it up to the internet until I am 100% convinced that the sky has stopped falling...which means lots of poking and prodding and testing in the meantime. It is at this very moment that I wish I knew more about computers and could be more definite in my decision of "it's fixed" versus "It still has Satan's programming running amok."
Unfortunately, this latest major technological fail means I will be able to do only teensy bits of work at a time on all my writing projects, because my laptop is equally ancient and cranky, and I can usually only squeeze about an hour of work out of it before I have to shutdown or risk it turning itself off from overheating. It's a good thing I don't do anything really important on the internet!!!! XD I must go now, or suffer horrible consequences! (Maybe later I'll have a little more time to write/polish fic pieces like I want to.)
