Sugar before bed causes bad dreams?

I had a bad dream last night, woke up at 3:15 sweating and scared as hell.
It's weird because I don't usually have bad dreams, or even remember my dreams.
I wake up too far out of REM to remember most dreams. But anyway, I woke up last night
after this really intense dream and I had a funny taste in my mouth. Almost like I'd eaten cardboard and it had
stuck to the inside of my mouth, so really gross, and I thought I was just dehydrated- because I don't drink water nearly as often as I should. So I drank quite a bit of water and tried to sleep, when I woke up in the morning the taste was still in my mouth. It went away later after I brushed my teeth, and then I realized that last night I went to bed pretty early. 10 o-clock, when I usually sleep at 11. AND I had dessert a little bit before bed. It was a French Vanilla Cheesecake, and I realized later that cardboardy taste must be from the cheesecake. There's this myth, or it might be true, that if you eat sweets before bed you'll have bad dreams. True or False? So I just had dessert before and I'm going to stall sleeping a bit and see if it works tonight. I'm really nervous about going to bed, and I want to know if it's the sugar that's given me a bad dream.

bad dreams, sugar
