Well, it's not like we didn't know it was coming.
Ever since my grandmother died, my grandfather really didn't take very good care of himself. Frankly, I really didn't like how underweight he was getting from all the meals he was skipping. Then he was diagnosed with cancer - lung and esophageal - for which he began chemo treatments... which soon had to be discontinued when he came down with pneumonia.
Suffice to say, he was in the hospital for the past few months. He seemed to be doing better for a while - the pneumonia went away - and they started giving him radiation treatments. But he still needed constant care, and between Grandma and his age - he was in his 80's - he didn't really want to fight. Eventually, the insurance stopped covering things (and no, they did NOT tell him that they weren't stopping because he was better), so alternate care had to be devised for him.
On Tuesday, his health took a sharp downturn, and it was obvious that he didn't have a lot of time left. So, like I said, it wasn't really a surprise when he passed away earlier today (Thurs, 02/04/2010).
Doesn't mean I'm happy about it.
I know I've been neglecting my various stories lately. Rest assured, I'll be getting back to them soon. Grandpa wasn't the sort to enjoy people making a fuss over him, and I know he'd want me to be doing something more productive with my time.
