Cowboys & Aliens vs Dust
I've not seen Cowboys & Aliens beyond a handful of adverts, but what I've seen does make me wonder out its release might effect Dust's chances of being picked up.
As I see it, it can go one of two ways:
#1: the resurgence in popularity of westerns and the widening audience for weird/steampunk west will be seen as good things and a network will take a shot, or
#2: the similarities between the two will be seen as negative and Dust won't ever see the light of day
(Admittedly some variation of those might happen, but they're the basic options)
I've actually bought the novelisation of Cowboys & Aliens, mostly as research into the similarities and to see for myself whether the movie is something to fear or be happy about. It is, at least, a good example of weird west compared to Wild Wild West, which pretty much poked fun at steampunk culture.
