Moar on the sniper WIP
Entitled Truth Unwinding (taken from Muse's Citizen Erased), after flip-flopping between genres, I've decided on post-apocalyptic cyberpunk.
The sniper character is Ithana Cain, a genetically modified solder whose regiment is 'decommissioned' after the [apocalyptic scale] war, and in whose POV I open the story. Which is with him shooting someone, though the details on that are a little sketchy (possible hostile takeover of one corp by another?) The other soldiers from Ithaca's regiment had their minds wiped and dumped in an asylum. Ithaca escaped. He still wears the regimental uniform and the rifle he uses is the one he was issued with.
After the shooting, he is sent on another mission. Right now, that's issued by an unknown third party, but I wondered if he could do with a man on the inside, or a hacker. Someone to feed him information. This background detail is sorely missing and needs work.
But Ithaca's mission is to intercept a package and deliver to whoever he works for. He never gets there - his ship crashes and is severely damaged, at which point he opens the pod. This contains Seren; part android, part clone, but with the source material's brain. Though Ithaca's every instinct is to put a bullet in her head, the situation demands that he instead works with her.
