Shakespeare's Old (And more rant-y opinions)

Nov 20, 2008 16:26

I discovered after watching a video, that had nothing to do with this subject, that this is the outfit that shows the most skin for Seto. Ah... And it's rather skin tight isn't it... I need to stop. Though I do wonder why he stopped wearing that sexy outfit...

Anyway, yeah that's why I'm horny. Blame him. Blame him for being so sexy!

On to a rant...what a shocker. I noticed I say something then I get right into a rant. Huh... In English, we are reading Macbeth...boring. It's boring. They take too long to say something simple, use words we never use, and just generally don't make any sense. Did they really talk like that during that time? I somehow find that hard to believe... And the witches annoy me. (I've read on the religion and always hate how the public perceive and how the media portrays it. It's a terrible shame...)

It's a tragedy. What is a tragedy? A "drama in which the protagonist is overcome by some superior force or circumstance; excites terror or pity." ...Ok. Tragedies don't excite terror nor pity for me. The character always has a tragic flaw, which leads to his tragic downfall. We know ahead of time he's going to do something stupid to cause bad things to happen.

I don't know about you, but it makes me just think, "What an idiot."

On to my rant, I believe Shakespeare is outdated. He talks in a way we do not understand, the majority of people don't understand...or maybe care. They talk of fate and other things that we don't care about, it just makes me feel superior to them. The things that happen have no revelation to what's happening now. I wonder why they're studied and marveled so much then.

Maybe it's because plays just don't click with me. My EFA teacher seems to assume we know all these play-related things, which leaves me feeling a bit left out and downright dumb.

Next rant, since it's so close to that one: Romeo and Juliet. I don't get it. Why are they fighting in the first place? They never answer it. Granted it doesn't really matter for the play's structure, but it would make it seem more realistic. Romeo just got dumped by Rosalee or something like that, and is all, "whow is me, the most beautiful woman on the face of the plan...hey who's that?" And gets latched onto young Juliet and they fall in love...IN A FEW DAYS!

They are willing to die to be with one another after knowing each other...a few days...

Now what kind of sense does that make? Who does that? Nobody! Really stupid, overly-emotional idiots, maybe. And the end, that's just great! Romeo thinks Juliet's dead because he didn't get a message that she's faking it. So they could run off together... So he kills himself in angst. Then Juliet wakes up and finds him dead and then she kills herself too.

...What the fuck? Just get over your ridiculous angst for a few seconds and you'll realize "the love of your fucking live" is not in fact dead! Grr, I hate the ending. I don't get why we are studying this at all. Granted, the theme is intriguing "forbidden love" even though we don't know why they are forbidden.

I feel sorry for Juliet, for falling in love with an idiot! An overly-dramatic, stupid...little idiot. Juliet was a sweet girl who got too emotionally involved with an idiot. Benvolio was cool though. He seemed like one of the only ones with his head on right. And Mercutio...he's an ass, but I had a friend who got me to like him. I have a friend that claims he's the only one with some character...and they kill him off. I can see her point.

Are tragedies suppose to make you cry? I'm guessing not from the definition. Good, cause they never do. We know it's coming and they seem to just be over-dramatic idiots who need to get over themselves. Gees...

Like it said, it all seemed outdated. It probably was a brilliant play for it's time but it just seems...out of date for these time. I hope my little rants haven't really upset anyone because I don't mean to. I admite to not having a passion for plays, nor knowing more than the general public. But I'm just ranting my feelings and opinions here. Some stuff in those is timeless...but not reading the play itself.

As for my writing, I'm a bit sad. I planned out the chapter and it's quite long, but I was hoping to add more... I guess it will have to wait until the next chapter...
