Hi there. I actually sort of... love this episode. Then again, I'd be lying if I said that I didn't love this sort of character development and explorations. And I sort of like how they structured it around the foundations of the future plotline. It was... an interesting sort of episode.
*sigh* I never can find the right words to describe an episode, and I think... I'm going to need to re-watch this episode. In fact, I need to re-watch the entire series after next week. *wibbles*
Also, if I ever had any doubt that Mary McDonnell owns my heart (besides the continuous staring I've done of her pics from the TV Guide shoot), this episodes proved it. She... fascinates me. Her ACTING fascinates me, and I admire her so much for it. She as Laura Roslin utterly broke my heart, had me curling up - in and around myself. The facial expressions, and how consistent these are with those that we recognize from the Laura Roslin we've come to know in the progress of the series. I... She broke my heart. Laura broke my heart. I WANT TO HUG HER SO BADLY!!! (And hmm... so they did something similar as to Baltar - took the series bible and kept this background while adjusting some slight details.) Also, doing the mental math - if they decided to keep the death of her mother around the same time - Laura lost the rest of her family all at once only four to five years afterwards. (o_o)
*HUGGLES IMAGINARY LAURA*
On that note, I love how the brought in the characters' lives on Caprica. I guess RDM meant it literally when he said that he sat down to write the series finale and remembered that at the core of the show WAS these characters and that is what the series ending is. A sort of resolution - to see where these characters end up. *shivers with excitement* I'm both excited and dreading the end. Hmm... This has been a wonderful and terrific ride.
Edit: Also of note:
Is it not the least bit ironic, and maybe a bit troubling, that all the "primary" fleet leaders are going on this possibly suicidal, one-way mission leaving the civilian fleet alone with the only real, primary and relevant leader: Gaius Baltar - the one who's supposed to write the new chapter of humanity.
Bill's [relatively] sober. YAY! *hands him cert*
Lee seems a bit... odd in the military uniform - what with his new hair-do and all. XD
I sort of love the Kara, Lee, and Zak scene, but I think the second favorite backgound story maybe have been Baltar's and Caprica's. That was really... I loved the idea of the father and Baltar not being able to make him happy because of his own ego even though he clearly cares and wants to. (Kudos to James Callis as well.) This is such a wonderful set up for who we see of Baltar.
Also of note, I love that moment that Kara supports Laura at the end there and they grab each other's hands. Love it SO MUCH.
HERA!!!
Finally, BSG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO SAY WE FRAKKING ALL!
Anyway, please ignore the almost schizophrenic character of my posts lately - I need to sleep now.
