dolce and medieval art, hermes and cave paintings

Haven't made a fashion post in quite a while, so thought I'd share pics of what's fascinating me lately. I don't profess to knowing a lot about it, but I dig the general feel of medieval art, how endearing it is because it is sumptuous and ornate and gilded up to the rafters, and yet sort of... very childish at the same time. Dolce & Gabbana's F/W 13prints demonstrate this perfectly.

Not clothes that I could see myself wearing. Hoping that they'll release some prints in a scarf later. If they do it in a 140cm shawl, I'm so there.

Also becoming very interested in the history and designers of Hermès scarves lately. I have a few favourites, Robert Dallet who does lots of wildlife prints (particularly large cats, tigers, leopards and the like), Natsuno Hidaka who did some of the most sought-after "grail" prints such as Turandot, Lumieres de Paris and my personal favourite, Ballade de Heian (which is and always will be my Hikaru no Go scarf). Just the other day I found this amazing design called "Premieres Mains" by Zoe Pauwels which is clearly inspired by prehistoric cave paintings, probably the ones they'd found in France.

The design seems to have only been issued once in 2002, and I'm not feeling this colourway although it is the only one I can find on the market at the moment, so I shall wait in hope.
