Day 16 - A vid that told you something new about a show/movie you already loved
Another toss-up between 2 vids by the same vidder, this time
hollywoodgrrl.
Passenger Fever, Twin Peaks
Signed, the Doctor, Doctor Who
Both are concepts that I just could have never ever come up with on my own in a million years. So probing and interesting and conceptually brilliant.
Also - I can't stress this enough - the ideas were matched by equally brilliant execution. When it comes to audacious "idea vids", I think there's always a tendency for the execution to be overlooked to some extent. I find that good execution tend to communicate the very complex ideas with effortless grace and clarity while itself remaining somewhat invisible (much like good cutting and pacing), whereas the opposite is also true - not-that-good execution can often be glossed over as long as the idea is awesome enough to hide those shortcomings.
With that in mind, you know you're onto something special when the idea is amazing and, at the same time, is perfectly offset by the way the vid is constructed and delivered. Signed, the Doctor communicates its idea by way of utilising a lot of tremendously beautiful external source, text and effects work; in contrast, Passenger Fever relies solely on parallels and metaphors in-show to communicate its powerful core idea. Both are amazing in very different ways, and one thing they share is the chill they send down my back due to sheer awesomeness.

in-depth review for Signed, the Doctor for The Fourth Wall 2008.

Today I just want everyone to focus their attention on this film poster for the upcoming
The Expendables and marvel at the sheer amount of awesome. Note: also has Charisma Carpenter and an Arnie cameo. \o/
