Well you certainly got enough mileage out of that arm squeeze. ;D It really works as this one perfect moment in a sea of fuckedupness.
I love the construction of the vid and the way you make the footage work for you. You always make vids that are visually spectacular as well as full of intention and this one is no exception. Maybe you should make some more femslash vids, eh?
Thank you! Yup, arm squeeze has definitely been whored to eternity and back. I'm not sure whether it works, which is why I didn't get the vid betaed for fear that the beta tell me it completely doesn't work and then I wouldn't get to post it. Call it New Year self-delusion. :D
Anyway, the lyrics were a bitch for all the back-and-forth-ness of the storytelling, so I'm glad that you liked the construction!
2009 is my year of vidding women and femslash. I decided that I spend too much time on middle-class pretty white boys and/or m/m slash so am trying to broaden my horizons this year. ;)
I'm mainlining BSG right now in preparation for the new episodes (and failing woefully - only up to start of s3, and the new ep is two days away), and the fuckeduppery really just punches you in the face when you watch the whole of s2 in one go followed directly by Razor. It's tempting to get angry at the fact that they even made Gina/Cain canon in the first place, knowing full well what's going to happen. There are plenty of fucked-up relationships on this show but this one in particular just feels so chilling because there's a complete about-face.
Ironically, 2009 is shaping up to be my year for not vidding so many women. OMG brain swap plz!
You were very right to listen to the drums. Obviously, Kanye and McCreary are kindred spirits when it comes to the rhythm section of their instrumentals. *g*
The thing with Gina and Cain is that their romance doesn't end--it just evolves into the realm of torture, degradation and murder. The way you splice their very few happy-romance clips into clips of Gina undercover, both fitting in and struggling to, clips of Cain in command, fighting battles and leading people, clips of both women post-torture--that really works to keep the horror of the vid grounded in the emotions the two women shared at varying times re: each other, both as enemy combatants and as individuals. And the vid keeps *all* their shared emotions in mind, everything from cold calculation to love to hatred. All kicking right along to that wonderful, inevitable drum beat. *g*

Thank you so much! I'm so glad that the vid made you think all that (as opposed to my usual reaction to vids, which goes along the lines of "hmm... preeeetty") and you're spot on with how push and pull it is. It's interesting reading people's reactions to this because some are seeing it as somewhat Cain-sympathetic while others see it very much only from Gina's perspective. I wonder if it's kind of telling where we'd fall on the hatred scale if we ever end up in a major war situation. But that's just me shooting off at the mouth. I'm really happy that you liked the vid and thank you so much for commenting.
I'm pretty much speechless over here... I think it's the most beautiful Gina/Cain vid I've ever seen (although I've seen just a few). I'm not even a big fan of their relationship. But you managed to make me tuned in their story to the point of being sharply aware of both women's sufferings on a very personal level, of their feelings of affection followed by huge betrayals. And the way you use footage with them is just breathtaking. Your editing rocks. Thanks a lot for sharing!
I really enjoyed this! Great use of the song - that whole album is begging to be vidded - and even better use of limited source. I especially loved how you wove the violence of what was between them into it by showing the violence of the Cylon/Human conflict. That worked really well for me.
I made this vid because the drums told me to.
Hee. Drums have given me more BSG vid ideas than anything. You should HEAR my Roslin vidsong. I swear it's 75% drums.
that whole album is begging to be vidded Ain't it just? I haven't liked an album in several years (as in "whole album" rather than "songs off") and kept being disappointed by my favourite bands' new offerings, and then Kanye comes along with this one and I'm semi-shocked to discover that I really like the whole album for once. I keep entertaining the notion that perhaps I could do a Scooby Road with this album, except with BSG rather than BtVS but thankfully my husband is convincing me that's a Very Bad Idea. :D
Anyway, rambly. Thank you! I'm so pleased that you liked it and the use of the limited source. I guess Gina/Cain at the end is just a microcosm of a more extreme aspect of cylon/human conflict (though I'm not sure how the lesbian sex factors into that), so I'm glad that you pulled the personal > global connection. Um, did that make sense? I just woke up from only 6 hours of sleep and the coffee hasn't helped much.
You should HEAR my Roslin vidsong. I swear it's 75% drums. *bounces* I can't wait!

What will the pretty, angsty, middle class boys do without you?
