Been feeling shitty for the last stretch of 2008. While it's true to say that life has dealt a chunk of shit which contributed to the shittiness, others have experienced much worse and it's not exactly a point to set me apart from anyone else, nor do I want it to be.
I am, as always, a firm believer in that the shit dealt to you by external forces is never as shitty as the shit that you deal to yourself; or, in less - shall we say - scatological terms: suck it up, bitch, most of this is in your head.
That's New Year's resolution number one: suck it up. Other resolutions include read more fiction, read (or at least watch film adaptations of) more Shakespeare, learn some basic human anatomy, and go to the theatre more often.
There's a definite thread running through all these, and I like to think of it as an input/output adjustment. I think now is a good time to take a rest and absorb/internalise more stuff than I output in a creative sense. As with plenty others I always mean to read some of the "serious literature" one always means to read but never get around to, so that's one of my goals this year. Please forgive the wank.

Man in the Box by
bradcpu, House s3 overview.
Amazingly kinetic and visually dazzling piece outlining the character arcs of season 3, and examines how House's cynicism rubs off on his cohorts until it all ties up in a neat and inevitable - if somewhat morally disturbing - bow. I think it's among Brad's best vids to date.
It's Not Over Yet by
charmax, Merlin, Nimueh/Morgana.
While the number of m/m slash vids in this fandom far outnumber the femslash ones, it has been incredibly gratifying to see a number of wonderful femslash vids come out of this fandom to date. This is certainly one of them. I think Charmax herself summed it up best: Where Red was all flames and pointy things, her gorgeous vid is watery, blue and full of receptacles. Filled with Charmax's signature beautiful cutting, movement and subtle effects work. The AU and symbolism all come together perfectly to tell a story that is both imaginative and narratively transparent.
