ARGH DAN. WHAT THE FUCK. At least iBloop was adorable... I have the new Victorious recorded... I may as well watch it now, get it over with. I'm just SO FILLED WITH FEMINIST RAGE RIGHT NOW. Between all this Victorious shit AND more news about The Last Airbender and Katara being pushed to the side, I don't want MORE rage later...
Looks like Sokka--I mean, SOH-ka breaks Aang out of the iceberg, and Aang motivates the imprisoned Earthbenders to Earthbend again, two things that Katara did in the cartoon.
Gaaaawd. It's like M. Night took all the very best parts of AtLA and then POOPED ON THEM. Also - Sokka breaking Aang out of the iceburg? DOESN'T EVEN MAKE NARRATIVE SENSE WHAT THE HELL KATARA FREEING AANG IS LIKE A BIG FUCKING DEAL.
I mean. I am not surprised. But I am SO SO SAD. This show? IS AWESOME. This movie? Is pretty much falling back on SO MANY THINGS THAT I HATE ABOUT MOVIES AND TV.

So...even without the white washing, it would've been a horrible movie due to ill treatment of female characters that actually kicked ass in the original cartoon? Color me surprised.
At this point, I'd love to see the *~true~* fans talk their way out of this one or explain why we should still support the live-action movie, because that's a major hole right there. Like, you can't even come up with a reason why those scenes were changed without offending anyone.
Or maybe the director will fall back on the LOL IT'S IRONY excuse again. Whatever.
(Also uh, sorry about not getting around adding you back as soon as you friended me, but I finally did. D: *Fails* And hi!)
Whoops, I replied to the wrong comment. I AGREE WITH THIS ONE, TOO.
This is related! One time, I joined this one somewhat secret community for Avatar fans to rant about what they're sick of seeing in the fandom. I thought it was going to be this fun, sort-of wanky but relatively okay place to blow off steam about whatever we wanted! But nope. The community was filled with "true" fans who were pissed off with other fans who refused to see the live-action movie because of the casting. They'd rant about how these guys should pay to see the movie because only true fans would support their show! Oh and how cartoon characters aren't necessarily a specific race.
I did a heel-turn and left so fast, I had whiplash for a week.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A "TRUE" FAN. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO MINDLESSLY LOVE EVERYTHING YOUR MEDIA DOES IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED A REAL FAN. IT IS OKAY TO LOVE AND HATE AT THE SAME TIME AND TO DISAPPROVE AND TO AGREE AND FUCKKKK THIS ALL OR NOTHING MENTALITY.
I guess they were arguing that if you support the movie, you automatically support the show? Which isn't how it works at all? You support the show by buying products that were made for the show, or buy the DVDs for the seasons, or other things that are related to the show alone. Film =/= show. I don't doubt that the film doesn't affect the sales of a show, but fuck, I don't care about things like that if they're screwing around with the predecessor's characters and general atmosphere! If you want to support the show, then support the show! Not a movie that pisses you off.
SO YES, FUCK THAT ATTITUDE SO MUCH. There's no wrong way to be a fan! You don't have to love EVERYTHING.
Dear Dan:
KATARA IS DISPLEASED WITH YOUR BULLSHIT.

I kind of hate Dan Schneider. Like. A lot. It's really upsetting to hate someone so much and still find joy in that someone's creation.
Also. What's this about Katara being pushed to the side in the Last Airbender? FUCK THAT SHIT.
