When the winter comes, keep the fires lit, and I will be right next to you

Yeah, I haven't updated in like a month. Long story short: I'm doing pretty great. School is going great.

This past Saturday was our first band competition. Flutes had breakfast at Sheri's, and I was the second one there. While waiting, the two of us (the other girl's name is Emma) ordered things to drink, and I ordered iced tea. When I got the drink, there was the usual lemon in it, but there was something else. I never had one in the lemon that usually comes with the tea.

There was a toothpick in that lemon.

Grandpa Dick always had a toothpick in his mouth. Always.

I looked at the toothpick and smiled. I remembered that Grandpa was in a marching band when he was young, and music was always part of his life. I remember, last Christmas, showing him the DVD of my band's show from my Sophomore year. I rolled the toothpick up in a napkin and brought it with me.

It just kinda felt like he was there.

grandpa, great grandpa, school, marching band, life
