I went to Eugene today to drop off my cousin at my Grandma's. The ride there was fun. We were all telling weird childhood stories (my mom told my cousin about all the weird stuff her dad would do growing up.)
In Eugene, I took my cousin and sister to Prince Puckler's, an ice cream place a few block's from my Grandma's house. Apparently, when Obama came to Eugene, he stopped there. He even picked out a favorite flavor, which they now point out on the glass, along with some employee favorites. Guess what his favorite is? Mint (chocolate) Chip. My absolute favorite flavor. I got that before I saw the arrow saying "OBAMA'S FAVORITE!" That made my day a little :)
I set all the upcoming episodes of Avatar to record for my cousin down there. My Grandma's got pretty much NOTHING on her DVR, so it should be fine. She would have stopped me if it wasn't, since she was sitting right there.
AND ZOMG my older brother is going to see The Dark Knight on Thursday night at an IMAX theater with his friends, and at first I was upset. "You are NOT going to see The Dark Knight before I do!!" But he immediately said I could come along if I invite a friend, so he doesn't have to babysit me. I'd be more comfortable with one of my friends anyway, not really one for "college humor". That will be SO FRAKKING COOL!!!!!!!!!
My Goddess, I love Pixar so much.
And I never thought I'd say this, but it actually gave me glee to see The Western Air Temple with commercials and that annoying "NICK!" symbol in the corner. I never thought I'd miss those so much.
Almost forgot. On the way home, when we got back into town, I saw a restaurant called Maiko Sushi. Needless to say, I cracked up.
I don't see why my brother doesn't get why I don't like walking alone at night, even in Eugene. When I went to the ATM and then to Starbuck for coffee for the ride home, I asked him to come with me, and he just didn't see why. "Eugene's one of the safest places," he said. "I see lots of girls walking alone at night." But I don't feel safe. And I've recently noticed a whole new level of that feeling of vulnerability when I'm wearing a skirt, which I was today. I know that it doesn't make a difference to possible predators. Anyone who wanted to rape me would do it regardless of what I was wearing. A belt and shorts is no hassle to a sick fuck like that. Anyway, I NEVER feel safe walking around at night. And my brother KNOWS about what happened at Safeway. That should be reason enough for him to see why I wouldn't want to go alone in a city filled with college students, who are basically older teenagers.
Thankfully, he agreed to go with me. Still though, is he that blinded by his own privilege?
