10 - Pairings - Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?
Well. Yes. Yes, I have. Slash pairing used to scare the pants off of me. Like, honestly. I used to be terrified that I'd fuck it up somehow, and make it unrealistic. I realise now that for all my hooting on about equality and schtick, treating it any differently than I did het pairings was the furthest thing from equal I could be. But either way, not the point.
Once I ventured into it, It worked out. Draco/Harry, as it happens.
I haven't actually written pairings I don't like, unless it serves a greater purpose. You know some fics are about plots. And others' are about relationships. And yet more are plots *about* relationships, right? So lemme give you an example.
I loathe Gwen/Jack. Honest to god, I hate it.
But more than I hate Gwack, I love Ianto Jones. And I'm a sadistic bitch and I like to hurt and destroy the characters I love, just so I can have the pleasure of piecing them back together again. So I want to hurt Ianto Jones. Easiest way: get Jack to do it for me. Makes sense, right? So I make him cheat on Ianto with Gwen. Or fall in lust with her. Or whatever, you know? And I hurt Ianto. And because I'm vindictive, I don't normally put them back together, see? So in the pursuit of Ianto-Ship, or whatever you call it, I'll write a pairing I hate. I don't like it, though.
Think that answers the question. nods.
