Hey guys!

I got a new haircut. I think it looks pretty cool. I'll post pictures sometime when I'm not incredibly lazy. I'm going crazy trying to get all this packing and shit done. Also, I still have to read the Motocycle Diaries, but I pretty much don't feel like it. I think Summer Reading is the worst invention ever created, and I really thought I'd be done with it after high school. At least I know they won't make me do any stupid crap next summer. But that doesn't entirely help me right now.

I got a Facebook, which is why I haven't updated in awhile, hahah. It's crazy addicting. I already met a really cool kid who goes to Emerson, so I'm pumped to meet him. I just can't wait to get to college and not be "weird" anymore, you know? Like, the way I act and the stuff I like won't make me some crazy outsider. It's wicked exciting.

My new email is: erin_long@emerson.edu incase anyone cares. I got the Clerks II soundtrack yesterday, and I pretty much love it to death. I'd been jonesing for that Soul Asylum song "misery" since I saw the movie. I really like Soul Asylum, and I think next time I have some spare cash, I'll pick up one of their cds. Here's to enjoying music almost ten years after it was popular!

Speaking of music and old, we're celebrating my dad's birthday on Thursday (even though it's sept. 24th ((same as F. Scott Fitzgerald))) and I got him a gift certificate to FYE because he told me he wants to listen to music that's not the radio and not just the Beatles. He bought the new Tom Petty cd and the Best of the Gin Blossoms (he has this weird thing for the Gin Blossoms) lately, so I'm excited for him. Which is why I made him what I think is a very excellent mix cd. He likes the the aforementioned bands, REM, classic rock, music with good guitar in it, Kansas, Paul McCartney's solo stuff (and most recently, that somewhat indie sounding song "Jenny Wren"), and he told me he enjoyed listening to TMBG and Mates of State in the car, though he may have been being polite on that one. He liked TMBG more than MoS because he was amazed/confused/upset that MoS contains no guitar. He was like "How can you function without a guitar???"

I hope he likes this cd, because I put a lot of thought into it.

I know he'll like the talking heads song. I'm pretty sure he likes that Dave Matthews band song, and he's heard "Firefly" before. I picked two covers of older stuff so he'll feel more involved (these days and open the door) so hopefully he'll like it. And if not, he can just buy himeslf something better with the gift certificate.

So, I'm leaving for Boston on the third. That's less than a week, people. I CANNOT WAIT. Although I'm a bit worried because we're taking my grandpa's truck, which is only 6 foot and has no "cab" to it to make it bigger, you know? And my dad wants to put the cap over it incase it rains, which will limit the room even more. And I'm bringing my TV, stereo, and microwave. I wanted to bring my guitar but I might have to wait until thanksgiving or christmas for that, because I just don't think we'll have room. My mom keeps telling me to pack all this extra stuff, and I'm getting a little perturbed because I know we'll end up taking all her shit that I don't want/won't use, but the stuff that's important to me will get left behind. There's a parents weekend at the end of october, (which hilariously corresponds with the school's Dragtoberfest, as I believe I was once told) so they can just bring my crap then, I suppose. I also don't think all the crap will fit in my dorm room. My mother has a horrible sense of space, and hse cannot take no for an answer. She wants to put a second (huge) computer desk in my bedroom now, and I'm like "no, listen, IT WILL NOT FIT. My room is small and I have a lot of furniture that takes up a lot of space." and she's liek "Well, if we move your tv over-" and I keep telling her 'IT WILL FIT IF YOU TAKE OUT MY TV AND MY DRESSER AND KEYBOARD AND PROBABLY MY BED.' Before we moved, I had a bigger room and a WALK IN CLOSET. Sometimes, I miss it very much. I can't even go inside one half of my closet because a table blocks the way.

Sorry for kinda going off on a rant, there. I better finish getting dressed because she'll be home soon and we have to go shopping for pajamas. Because she is crazy and I am irritable. Writing about it kinda got me all grumpy. I better chill out before we leave, or nothing will get accomplished, which is usually what happens on these shopping expoditions.

Last night my brother yelled 'I'M 23 AND SHE'S ALMOST 19. IT'S TIME TO CUT THE CORD!' and it made me very happy.

family, college
