In Character Information

character name: Yuugi Mutou
Fandom: YU-GI-OH! (technically the second anime, Duel Monsters)
Timeline: During the events of episode 158, when Yuugi gives his soul to the Orichalcos in exchange for the Spirit of the Puzzle's.
character's age: 16ish

powers, skills, pets and equipment: In terms of powers, Yuugi has an affinity for games, he tends to create them when bored for entertainment and he is a world renowned champion of Duel Monsters. Yuugi is also the Chosen One - the foretold vessel chosen by the Sennen Puzzle to help the Spirit of the Nameless Pharaoh gather the three Egyptian God Cards and help him unlock the secret of his forgotten memories.

What he brings to Anatole: His empty Sennen Puzzle, his deck, a Duel Disk, the clothes on his back - he really wasn't planning on showing up here after sacrificing himself.

Mist generated: Seeing as how Anatole can be dangerous, the mist has granted Yuugi one thing: the monsters he summons are real, much like they would be in a Dark Game. And those trap/magic cards? Yeah, those are real too, although Monster Reborn will only work on Duel Monsters, not on actual people. It's something that will develop over time, not something that he will do right away. And don't worry, he's not going to be strong enough to summon Gods - if anything, the strongest he would be able to summon would probably be the Black Magician or the Blue Eyes White Dragon (not that he has this card in his possession at the moment, it's Kaiba's after all). When he does use this ability, however, the Sennen Eye will glow on his forehead, much like it does on his other's when he's handing out penalty games. And there will be consequences to using it - using to much in a short time span will exhaust him.

canon history:
Because I wanted to be one of those people playing a main character in a Shounen Jump series, have a link! History covers from the beginning of the series until the paragraph ending in "Using the power of the Millennium Puzzle, Yugi broke the seal that was holding him back and appeared next to Yami again. Since "The Seal of Orichalcos" only takes one soul, Yugi pushed Yami aside and let the seal take him instead.[113]" under the heading for Waking the Dragons.

Also adding in THE MOVIE since it takes place after Battle City but before Waking the Dragons.

I should probably also note that Yuugi will be from the Japanese version, so Joey Wheeler will be Jounouchi Katsuya, the Pharaoh/Yami is Mou Hitori no Boku and so on and so forth.

personality:

In the beginning, Yuugi was your standard bullied student: quiet, shy, unassuming and more then likely to attempt to blend into a crowd then try to draw attention to himself. Too bad his short statue and his hair cause him to stick out.

A social outcast, Yuugi tended to spend most of his time with either his childhood friend, Anzu Mazaki, or his grandfather, Sugoroku. Knowing that he lacks any real physical ability, except perhaps running, he is much more content to spend his breaks at school inside the classroom playing and perhaps even creating his own games to keep himself occupied instead of going outside and interacting with his fellow classmates.

Even so, however, Yuugi is a kind-hearted soul. He makes friends with Jounouchi Katsuya and Honda Hiroto after all, by saving them from a mutual bully by standing up to him when he was going to attack the two, even though Jou and Honda would bully him as well. Even though Yuugi gets beaten up as well, it forms a tight bond between the three of them, one that extends to include Anzu and others as the series goes on. Actually, Yuugi has a habit of making friends wither either those who want to do him harm or those who are his rivals. Sometimes, they're even both (ie, Malik in Battle City, to an extent Seto and Mokuba Kaiba, although you'd be hard pressed to find Seto admitting he has any friends).

Yuugi also has a big heart for forgiveness. The Spirit of the Puzzle was not exactly kind in the beginning to those he considered his opponents but when the it becomes clear that he's willing to be the cause of Kaiba's death to win, Yuugi manages to step in and push him out of control of the body. For a little while, things are strained between the two, but they realize that they need to work together if they are to survive the battles of Duelist Kingdom and save Sugoroku's soul from Pegasus. This is rather apparent in the case of their final duel with Pegasus where they shift off who's dueling in order to fool Pegasus's mind scan, knowing that they have to trust in each other and the heart of the cards in order to win.

He's by no means a pushover, however. He's stubborn when he has to be and is fiercely protective of those he considers his friends and family. He has to be, considering the inherit dangers involved with being the vessel for the spirit of the Nameless Pharaoh. There are those who are after the puzzle and will do anything they can in order to obtain it: such as steal his grandfather's soul or kidnap his close friends and brainwash them, forcing Yuugi to duel one of them in a duel to the death (this event is also when you start to see Yuugi's growth from the Pharaoh's vessel into a Duelist in his own right - he insists that the Spirit not help him with this duel). He has repeatedly risked his life, and at times, his very soul to protect them (ie, staying in a burning building to rebuild the puzzle, the aforementioned duel with Jounouchi and giving himself over to the seal of the Orichalcos in exchange for the Pharaoh, since, as he tells his other, "it only needs one of us.").

Yuugi is also devoted to helping the spirit of the Pharaoh find his lost memories and figure out the mysteries of the Sennen Puzzle, the other Sennen items and the dark games. The Pharaoh can be rather intense at times, and Yuugi is not above tricking him if he thinks his other is being uptight and needs to relax, such as setting him up to spend the afternoon with Anzu on a 'date'.

Considering that he's a master of card games, it could be said that Yuugi is rather good at strategy as well. He's less then stellar at school work, however, but is always willing to head over to Burger World after school with his friends for some hamburgers (the best food ever in his opinion).

Seeing as how Yuugi starts off rather shy, it is interesting to note that as a master of card games and his status as the King of Games, he is a famous duelist. While he doesn't have paparazzi stalking his every move, he is recognized when he goes out and his name is widely known. Then again, it's hard to see how anyone could miss that hairstyle.

Writing Samples

Network Post Sample:

[For a moment, there's silence, then a small groan and shuffling as a body moves. A head of tri-color hair appears as the figure pushes himself up to blink wide violet eyes at the forge's screen. He doesn't pay attention to it, however, as he didn't even notice it.]

Mou hitori no boku?

[Fingers clutch at the golden pyramid around his neck, his head tilted to the side as he closed his eyes.]

Mou hitori no boku!

[There's a moment of silence, before the boy drops the puzzle, letting out a soft sigh as his eyes reopen.]

It must have worked then. I hope everyone is all right.

[There's a pause, before the boy finally starts to look around the room.]

... where am I?

[His eyes finally rest on the Forge and he gets to his feet and walks towards it.]

What is this?

[The view tilts as he picks it up and turns it in his hands.]

It almost looks like something Kaiba-kun would have...

Third Person Sample:

What was this? When he had allowed the seal to take him, when he had broken through whatever had been separating him and Mou Hitori no Boku, he had fully expected to be separated from his other and his friends. After all, Dartz was after the spirit of the Nameless Pharaoh, not the soul of a high school student.

Yuugi certainly had not expected to end up in a little apartment in a city he didn't recognize, among people he had never seen before. If this, indeed, what had happened to people after they were taken by the seal, should he have at least seen something to indicate as such? While he had never really asked his grandfather, Seto or Mokuba what it felt like when Pegasus had taken their souls, he certainly didn't think it would have been something like this. He was expecting more darkness at the very least. Perhaps even the feeling he got when they were participating in a Yami no Game.

Not this. Whatever it was.

There was one thing he knew with certainty however: he was alone here, his friends back in America. He hoped they were all right, that they weren't too harsh on Mou Hitori no Boku for what happened and that they weren't angry at him for what he had done as well. It had been, he thought, the only way to keep Dartz from obtaining that what he truly wanted - his other's soul.

Then again -- he looked down at the deck of cards in his hands, his fingers running over them before he flipped the first one over. The Black Magician. This was the deck that he had built with Mou Hitori no Boku for Battle City. That alone brought a level of comfort that he hadn't realized he craved. As long as he believed in this deck, in the heart of the cards, then he wasn't alone -- his friends, his other, were still with him.

Anything else? Since Yuugi was technically a disembodied soul and all, would it be all right for the mist to give him a body?
