Splindor in the Grass bro.

WARNING; this is going to be a rather lengthy account of the past three days. If I've forgotten anything, let me know. There wull also be a lot of Nu Zeelind iksents an shut too bro so I hope you cin reed thim. Choice.

I have had the best three days of my life at Splendour in the Grass and I will never ever forget them. Here goes...

FRIDAY.
Kelly picked Ashley and I up and then she went home to pack her stuff, so Ash and I shopped around at Robina etc etc then Kel came and picked us up and we headed back to Elanora to pick up our luggage. Ashley razored my hair (and it looks super hot too) then we went to mine and Father put some oil in Kelly's car, then we picked up dinner, got abused by some retards at McDonalds who were calling me emo then we headed off on the road to Byron.

In the car Ash and I were drinking goon from our McDonald's cups and smoking cigarettes and we found to our delight that the cigarettes enhanced the flavour of the goon. Go us! So as we were getting steadily drunker we put glowsticks on our wrists and turned on Maximo Park and were dancing, which turned into "Miximo Dusco".

So we finally arrived at the Arts Factory and met up with Munda, Vera, Roxy, Bree and three other people in our cabin (I can't remember their names though) and we were all speaking in Nu Zeelind iksents and unsultung each other
eg. "cluff it butch"
"nick up cont"
"rick off"
"shut cunt"
"i'm from frince/i'm so frunch"
...you get the point.

We all kept drinking and what not, then we all walked into town in our inebriated state. Munda, Vera, Roxy and Bree went to the pub and so Kelly Ashley and I went and got Subway for dinner with extra large cups so we could take them back to the cabin and continue to drink. We also found a Pokemon figurine vending machine so of course we had to get some figurines. So the three of us drunkenly walked back to the cabin and proceeded to continue with our Miximo Dusco with the light on and just our glowsticks. We didn't have a stereo in our room, so we were yelling the lyrics for Miximo Park and Roger Susters.

After dancing around a bit we decided to go downstairs and play PacMan and other various games downstairs and a random guy walked past us and thought we were really from Nu Zeelund and was playing along with us. Then we went out the front and tried to hack into the electronic lockers and another two random people heard us doing the iksents and thought I was actually from Nu Zeeland, so I went along with it. Then it was back to the apartment for a bit more to drink.

Then we decided it was a good idea to walk to the town for a bit. So off we went in our pj's running down the road singing Eskimo Joe's ("Iskimo Joe") song "Black Fingernails, Red Wine" but in Nu Zeeling iksents and muxing the name around; "Rid Fungernayls, Blick Wyne". Then we went to the Byron Train Station (pff, who knew?) and had to stay there for a while because it started to rain. I found a manky mattress and pillows behind one of the benches, so I threw it onto the tracks, don't ask me why. When the rain stopped we headed on back to the cabin still singing Iskimo Joe and by the time we got back everyone was back at the cabin. After this point, I don't remember much. Possibly because of the amount of alcohol I had consumed or because I fell asleep, I can't be certain.

SATURDAY.
Woke up rather early with no hangover which is quite unusual for me. Got dressed etc etc then went downstairs with Kelly to have breakfast. As we got there Steve and Munda had finished then they went off to get poncho's and that was the last we saw of Munda for the whole day.

After breakfast we all caught the bus from the Arts Factory to Belongil Fields and of course we were doing Nu Zeelund iksents all the way there and everyone on the bus was laughing at us. Once we got to the gate Ashley and I had to go in a seperate line to everyone else cos we're not 18. They took a bit longer than us, because our line was much shorter; 35 to be exact.

Once we got inside we met up with everyone else and we headed straight over to the merch tent wading through the ankle deep mud (for me anyway as I'm a midget) and I bought a sexy Presets shirt. Then we got waters and whatnot and walked around; Roxy, Ash and Kel bought sunnies and then we headed over to the Tipi forest to check it out.

The Tipi Forest was a gigantic circle of Tipi's and in the middle was a huge section where you could dance and a DJ booth at the front. So we danced for a little while to the tribal beats yo and then we headed over to the Super Top and Roxy went to go and meet Vera and when we got there Brittle Fex were near the end of their set.

Brittle Fex;
I've seen them once before when they played with Operator Please and to be honest they have steadily gotten worse. The bassist was disgusting; gnarly white talons for fingers nails/trying to headbang with no hair/attempting to do a hardcore power-stance. There was a small death circle too, which was totally unnecessary and redundant. Thank god we were only there for a few songs. The only good thing was that there wasn't much of a crowd so we all just walked up straight to the barrier.

Dungen;
I didn't know what to expect from these guys, because they were from Sweden so they could have been sweet ambient music or death metal. They suprised me because they were kind of soft experimental rock. There was a purely instrumental song that lasted for about ten minutes or so that was quite wonderful, so overall I was impressed by them. During their set Ash was getting messages from Sarah and so he got a VIP ticket and went backstage for a few sets.

Youthgroup;
I don't like them. They are so unbelievably unoriginal and they irritate me quite a fair bit. So Kel and I had to sit through them. They weren't bad, but they weren't good; mediocre I'd say. When Forever Young came on, this group of grit disco bitches elbowed their way to the front and were posing and taking MySpace shots in the moshpit. As if that didn't piss of not only me, but everyone else around one of the said disco bitches turned around to one of her fellow bitches and said "Oh MI GAwd!! I totally LUV YoUTh GrOUP!! I Can'T bEliEVe thEY WrOte ThiS soNG!!"

I'm sorry if you like Youth Group, but I really dislike them. Way to play Forever Young exactly like the original. The whole point of re-releasing a song is to make it DIFFERENT to the original, not make it exactly the same. It defeats the purpose of re-releasing it in the first place, because you're getting credit from skanky uneducated disco bitches who don't know anything and think that you're great. Ugh.

Oh! And during the set I was in the middle of texting Ash saying "Foriver Yung" and I got a message from him with the phonetics exactly the same. Tres creepy, but we're twins so it makes sense I guess.

Death Cab For Cutie;
To be honest, I hadn't heard too much from them so I was looking forward to seeing them and they blew me away. They were so magical! The blonde guitarist was adorable and was doing cute robotic movements and the lead singer was just precious. I was really glad that I got to see them because they were wonderful.

During the interval Roxy found us in the front row, so she was with us for the Grates' set.

The Grates;
I was really looking forward to seeing them because I didn't get to see them at Big Day out and they were brilliant. Patience was jumping around and dancing like crazy, Alana looked so cute playing drums and John is quite cute too, but a little bit reserved. The balloons on the stage looked really effective and for 19-20-20 they released balloons from the roof. They were absolutely great and I'm really happy that I've finally seen them play live because I like them even more than I did.

After the Grates the three of us went outside and Ashley came from backstage and told us that he had been talking to Alana and Patience and got a photo with them and that he saw Nick and Brian from the Yeah Yeah Yeah's and Nick waved at him. Lucky!

Then we four headed over to the Tipi village (if i recollect correctly) then decided to go back to the cabin and have a few drinks and come back to watch Sonic Youth and more Tipi village "pinging" (not actually pinging with drugs, by this we meant that we were dancing around so crazily that to everyone else watching us dance it would have looked like we were pinging).

So we caught the bus back to the cabin and had a few drinks (goon & passion pop; we're classy!) then we caught a bus back to Splendour and by this time we were all fairly drunk.

Sonic Youth;
I had never heard any of their songs before and I know they're an iconic band but from what little we saw of them they were excellent. And to my suprise the lead singer was a woman (if you've heard them you'll know what I'm talking about). Then Roxy and I found Steve and we all went back to Sonic Youth for a bit and then we headed over to the Tipi village and pinged for a while.

This time we were adding lyrics of songs we all knew to the music ie. Rogers Sisters, Maximo Park, "Flaunt It", "Candy Girl" and even Operator Please songs and doing our sexy Big Fish Little Fish Cardboard Box dance.

We were all getting a bit tired, so we all decided to walk back to the cabin and it's a fair walk but it seemed to go rather quickly because we'd been drinking. Roxy and Steve lagged behind so it was me, Kel and Ash walking. Kel and I were singing/yelling a selection emo/screamo/core music that Ash doesn't like and was paying out.

Then we got back to the cabin and we had a few drinks, then I don't remember what happened. Perhaps the alcohol again, can't be sure. I seem to remember Vera and Munda dressed up and us drinking and then falling asleep. Like I said, I can't be sure (Ash; if you read this, what happened..?)

SUNDAY.
The four of us had planned to wake up at 5AM and have showers, then go back to sleep until at least 8 so that we could get ready and line up early to get a place on the front barrier at the Super Top. But because we had been drinking we woke up rather late. I woke up at about 8.30 and had a shower. The showers were so dodgy and the water kept changing temperature and pressure, so it was rather annoying.

Then everyone else was waking up, so they all had showers and got ready. Ash and I went and got breakfast and headed off to the grounds at about 10AM. We caught a bus from town and we got to the fields at about 10.30 and waited until the gates opened (eventually). While we were waiting we saw Yumi from Channel V running around.

So we were waiting in line and getting rather impatient. Just before the gates opened up at 11.30 Roxy, Kelly, Vera, Munda and Bree walked past us into the other line. So when the gates opened and we got in Kel, Ash and I and some other random people sprinted to the Super Top so we could get a place at the barrier. Ash got their first out of our group and he managed to get a place right in the middle, as in right infront of the drum kit. Then everyone else rocked up and at about 12 I went and got Ash and I food and I was talking to the woman who was selling the food for a while then I heard the first band playing in the distance so I quickly walked back to the tent and squeezed my way to the already quite crowded front.

The Exploders;
Excellent! I had heard one of their songs before and I quite enjoyed it so I was really happy that I kinda knew them. They were kinda alternate rock and the guitarist was rather talented.

Because Clap Your Hands Say Yeah pulled out they were replaced by Butterfingers.

Butterfingers;
An Australian hip hop/rock band that I don't like enjoy that a lot of people froth over. I found myself falling asleep on Kelly's shoulder or paying them out with Ash. I don't want to elaborate on them, but I definately didn't find their set enjoyable.
GRADE; -35 out of 2.

Between these sets there was this REALLY annoying guy called Bryce who practically stalks Munda and he just wouldn't shut up. Vera was like "Oh god, he's so annoying!" and he was just coming out with useless facts and I was getting steadily more annoyed. So I turned around and said "Um, excuse me could you please be quiet?" in rather short tones. Then after a little gap he said "Why do you want me to be quiet?" or something along those lines, and I replied with "Because you're voice is really nasal and it's really annoying" and everyone laughed. I'm sorry, but I get really annoyed really easily and if you piss me off I'll tell you. Apparently I'm a "bitch" but I don't care because I just said what everyone was thinking anyway.

During this interval Bryce and his friend were smoking weed and it was so strong and it smelt so vulgar. Also...
a) they were right near the barrier, so the security guards could have seen them.
b) everyone else would have smelt it and could have possibly gotten passively affected by it. I go to concerts for music, not for the use of drugs. That's just me though.

The Zutons;
They were lovely. Ashley was the only person in the front row going crazy for them so he got looked at by the band a lot. We listened to them on the way down in Kelly's car and I quite liked them and so listening to them live just made me like them more. Their saxophonist was excellent and the timbre of her instrument was impecable. The drummer had an adorable Gordie accent and the lead singer was cute and Irish. They were so much fun and as I write this I am listening to their album and I'm downloading their other one.

The Vines;
This was a total shock. On the timetables there was "???" for this time slot and so we were trying to figure out who the band could be. There were a few rumours of who it could be and they were one of them. So when then tech crew bringing out the amps and what not there were stickers on them and Ash said it was The Vines. And he was right; there is no other Aussie band that I know of that wears/uses their own merch.

Watching them made the day a 35 out of 2. They were just perfect. Even though he's a little drug-fucked Craig was just brilliant. We all were going crazy up the front, screaming our lungs out! Their cover of Miss Jackson was really good, even though the crowd was doing the majority of the singing while Craig was smoking.

When they finished playing "Fuck The World" Craig started to smash equipment and I don't just mean smashing his guitar on the ground. He went nuts; smashing it into the drumkit, knocking over the cymbals, jumping into the kit, smashing the mike. I can't imagine how much money that equipment is worth but the crowd went crazy. Along the side of the stage, you could see all the roadies looking at him going nuts and thinking "Oh fuck."

Now, I'm not sure whether this bit happened in this interval or the next one. Their was another IDIOT behind me who was name dropping and just being a cocky idiot. I don't remember how the disagreement started with him but he accused me of knowing nothing about music. Now that insulted me more than anything else anyone has ever said to me ever. When he said that Ashley and I turned around and just yelled at him "Ex-CUSE me! I/she go to university where I'm/she's studying sound-engineering and I/she was a VHA 7 student at music in high school, so don't you DARE accuse me/her of knowing nothing about music." Then he shut up. I hope that guy gets the clap, seriously.

Snow Patrol;
Again another band I hadn't heard much from. Ashley bought their CD in the car and we listened to it for a little bit. Usually I don't like bands who play slower rock/alternative music but these guys were so sweet. And by sweet I mean sweet as in "cute and little" sweet not "WOW dude that was SWEET!" if you understand. Their melodies were just beautiful and I really enjoyed them. The bassist was stage flirting with Ashley throughout the whole set. Once again, he's a lucky bastard.

You Am I;
I've heard a few You Am I songs before so I knew what to expect. I don't like them and I don't hate them, they're just one of those bands you don't bother getting worked up over if you don't like them because they don't do anything vulgar or anything. They're just meh. Tim Rogers kept drinking straight vodka and the bassist was drinking red wine. The only thing I enjoyed apart from them finishing and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's setting up was their lighting. It was really good, but apart from that they weren't anything special. The idiot guy who insulted me earlier was grinding his elbows into the pressure point of my shoulder so I was wincing in pain, but after they finished he got the security guard to pull him out of the mosh thank goodness.

Yeah Yeah Yeah's;
I don't think I've ever been this excited to see a band apart from Franz Ferdinand. Brian came on stage to check his drums and Ash and I yelled out "BRIAAAAAAN!" and he turned around and saw us waving madly at him and he waved back! Then we were screaming with absolute joy and he took the piss out of us and did a mimed fan scream back and that made us scream more and laugh. He was just so so cute!

Then Nick came on stage. Now, I am in love with Nick Zinner, I think he is absolutely perfect. When he came on he was really little and skinny and smoking a cigarette. I had tears welling in my eyes because I saw him and I was so enamoured by him that I didn't look away from him the entire time he was doing his sound check. People were screaming at him, but he didn't acknowledge them at all.

Brian and Nick came back on with another guy who had an awesome orange jumpsuit on and looked like he belonged in Datarock, but he was much cuter and less hairy. So those three started to play and Karen ran on stage. Oh Karen, I love you. There are no proper words to describe their performance other than flawless. There was not a single thing that anyone could have said about them. They are how ALL bands should endeavour to play live.

Karen was wearing black and transparent stockings and a brightly coloured leotard (sp?) complete with orange and yellow high tops, a frilly thing that clowns wear around their necks, a bonnet that matched the leotard and a sequined pink shawl thing. No matter how good Brian and Nick played you were always watching Karen because she's so unpredictable and has an absolutely amazing energy and stage presence. She played with the microphone chord, then ate the microphone, bit and ripped a plastic beach ball that someone threw on stage, spat water down herself and poured beer down her leg. She was just so wondeful.

Maps was beautiful; at one point she knelt on the edge of the stage right near us and we extended our arms and were screaming and yelling the lyrics to her. When the crowd screamed for her, she smiled her cute little smile and it made my heart melt.

The only thing I was upset about was that they didn't play Bang or Art Star my two favourite songs but just being able to actually see them all in the flesh was the most thrilling and wonderful experience. Even though it was magical, the mosh was getting a bit out of hand ie. being dragged along the barrier. So I not only feared for my life a few times and the life of my belly piercing but it was all so worth it to see the Yeah Yeah Yeah's.

After they finished Kelly and I got pulled out of the mosh by the security guards and we met Roxy and Ash at the merch tent and went and got some food then we headed over to the Mix-Up Tent to catch a little bit of the Bang Gang DJ's. Then we were all a bit hot so we went outside to get some air for a bit and a remix of Bloc Party came on and it started to rain. Then we were walking away to go and find some form of shelter and then a remix of the Presets came on so we stayed outside and danced for that seeing as we didn't get to see them because we were at the Yeah Yeah Yeah's.

While we were all dancing, I noticed something on the ground that looked like Kelly's phone, so I said "Kelly, isn't that you're phone?" and she said no, so we picked it up and the phone had a message from the person's friend asking where they were. So we texted back to them and said that we'd found the phone and to contact us so they could come and get the phone for their friend. So by this time it was raining heavily and we were freezing cold. So they guy's friends came and got the phone from us and were really thankful, and after that we found the bus that took us straight back to the cabin and we all had showers and drank a bit more goon and what not. The only bad thing was that we didn't get to see Gerling or Scissor Sisters, but after more than eight hours of being compacted together, arse-rapped, punched, kicked, bruised, elbowed etc we had kinda had enough.

And so we packed up our bags this morning, had a good breakfast and headed home. That brings me to the end of the recount. If I remember anything, I'll edit it in.
Phew!

Ps. I'm going to post this on MySpace too, but it seems to be having some technical difficulties :s
Damn it!
