Rob, I promise you, you're not the only one who smiles and pretends everything's alright when it isn't. At least you tried and worked hard and did your best and ultimately succeeded. I put it off and put it off and put it off, tried a little and gave up, putting it out of my mind as much as I could and failed. I had my nervous breakdown two nights before the deadline. Couldn't think of a single thing to be hopeful about. Funnily enough, turns out the university are very understanding and helpful.
Still not okay, don't go a day without thinking about what a complete failure I am, but at least there's a little ray of hope that things might be okay eventually. But, if I ever do manage to get things done and get my degree, I don't think I'll ever be able to really feel that I deserve it. You do. You did well, worked hard, you're passionate about your subject, and the fact you could even do two dissertations, plus all these exams so close together is nothing short of amazing. So well done.
Note: this is not an invitation to be sentimental about all this IRL. Business as usual in the real world. :P
