The gang of three quietly made their way into the night fallen, abandoned city. Everything was still, no noise, no wind, nothing. Every crunch of their foot steps were as loud as a march of an army, in the silence. Barely able to see a few feet ahead of them, clutching his crowbar ready to strike at any given notice, Kyo looked for any place that would offer shelter and safety. Close behind was Shinya clutching Tina to his chest with one hand and holding his monkey wrench in the other. Beside him was Toshiya, carrying their bag of food, almost empty. There was tall apartment buildings all around them, Kyo's eyes landed on a five-story bricked apartment beside them, in front of the building was a big double door entrance. Quickly leading the group up to the building, Kyo tried to pull the doors open, they were locked. Using his crowbar he tried to pry them apart.
Toshiya watched behind them, worried that Kyo was going to attract unwanted bodies with the noise of the prying. His eyes snapped to across the street, squinting to try to focus in. There was nothing, he could have sworn he seen something, must have been his eyes playing a trick on him.
“Kyo,” Toshiya whispered. “Is it going to open or not?”
“I'm trying.” Kyo bit back.
Toshiya looked back across the street, again his eyes snapped to where he was surely seeing something, right?
“Fuck!” Kyo yelled before letting his crowbar down. “It's not budging.”
Whatever it was Toshiya was staring at it started moving, fast. “Guy- guys something is coming!” Toshiya turned to see more figures moving, all closing in on them. “Fuck, guys they're all over!”
Snarls and sickening tongue lapping could be heard. Fast foot steps made themselves heard as a hardly decomposed zombie speed up to the group, mouth wide letting out loud snarls. Kyo raised his crowbar horizontally as the zombie reached him and stabbed it through it's throat, causing the flesh eater to gurgle as blood bubbled out around the weapon. Using his leg to kick the body back, pulling his crowbar out, Kyo raised it again and delivered a quick few blows to the head. Before he even had time to stand up another one was on him. Kyo looked back to see Shinya and Toshiya dealing with their own half decomposed zombie, there was no use staying and fighting them off, there was too many. Pushing his zombie off and stabbing his crowbar through it's skull, Kyo swung his weapon around to hit the flesh eater offending the other two in the back of the head, caving it in. Another hit to the head and it was down. Before any more could assault them Kyo lead Toshiya and Shinya around the building to the back. There was a fire escape leading up the building.
“Toshiya can you reached that ladder?” Kyo asked.
Toshiya stretch to reach the ladder. “I can't.”
“Here stand on this trash can!” Shinya ran over to grab it but was stopped as a zombie tackled him to the floor. Snapping it's jaw open and closed inches above Shinya's shoulder, being held off by the monkey wrench. Before Shinya could even call his name Kyo was there kicking at the torso of the decomposing mass with his boot. Toshiya had grabbed the crowbar, using the curved end to hook the end of the ladder pulling it down.
“Kyo! Here!” Toshiya threw the crowbar towards Kyo. Catching the weapon Kyo stabbed it through the zombie's temple, making it go limp. With a final kick to the torso the body fell to the ground. Kyo pulled Shinya to his feet and ushered him to the ladder.
“Hurry and go!” The oldest male yelled.
Shinya hurried and climbed the ladder followed by Toshiya and finally Kyo. After pulling the ladder back up Kyo tried the window, locked. Before he had time to do anything else, Shinya smashed the window with his monkey wrench and climbed inside.
“Shinya! Hold on, you can't just go in with out looking in first!” Kyo scolded as he climbed in after Shinya, followed by Toshiya.
Shinya looked around quickly, ignoring the scolding, and found the bathroom. He ran and slammed the bathroom door shut, locking it.
“Shinya! What are you doing!?” Kyo asked through the door, worried. “Are you okay!?”
“Fuck off!” Shinya yelled back as he looked through the cabinet of the bathroom.
“What the hell! Open the door now!” Kyo was met with no response, he started slamming his body into the door.
“Kyo stop!” Toshiya grabbed him by the shoulder. “He's probably just upset, let him cool off by himself.”
Kyo hesitantly backed off from the door and looked around before sitting down on the bed. They were in a one room apartment. “I shouldn't have made us come.” He said as he rested his head in his hands. “I'm so fucking stupid! It's all my fault!”
Toshiya sat down next to the short male. “It's no ones fault, Kyo.”
“It is! I made you guys come! We should have just stayed in the woods.”
“We chose to come, Kyo, remember?” Toshiya said rubbing his back reassuringly.
“I'm sorry Toshiya.”
“Kyo, stop saying that.”
“No, I'm sorry for being mean to you. I've been nothing but a hard ass on you since Shinya forced you on me.”
“Well now if you say it like that it seems like you didn't want me from the beginning.”
Kyo turned his head to look at Toshiya. The younger man was smiling despite his serious tone from the sentence.
“I was just afraid if I got attached to people that it'll only hurt me in the end.”
“Awe Kyo, stop thinking so negatively.” Toshiya said rubbing the older mans back.
Kyo suddenly pushed his lips to Toshiya's before pulling away quickly.
“I'm sorry.” The older man quickly said.
“It's . . . It's . . . It's okay.” Toshiya stumbled slightly shocked.
“It's just been a long time . . .”
“Ye-yeah. I understand.”
“And you're the only gay man I've met since this all started.”
“It's fine.” Toshiya said looking at the bathroom door.
“I'm sorry.” Kyo mumbled his repeated apology.
Toshiya grabbed Kyo's face and returned the kiss. Kyo pulled away from it.
“What?” Toshiya laughed. “You think you're the only one who's gone without for a while?”
The older man answered by smashing his lips to the youngers. Toshiya's fingers wrapped in the Kyo's short black hair as the older mans hands wondered about his body. The bathroom door opened and Kyo quickly pushed Toshiya away almost causing the taller man to fall off the bed.
“Do you guys need a minute? Or thirty?” Shinya asked while holding his stomach.
“No.” Kyo quickly said. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I'm fine.” Shinya answered.
“You didn't seem fine when you ran to the bathroom.” Toshiya said.
“I was scared.” The youngest man mumbled.
Kyo stood up and went around Shinya to the bathroom and closed the door.
“I would've given you guys alone time if you wanted it.” Shinya said through the door.
He got no reply from the other side. He looked at Toshiya. The older man patted the bed to signal Shinya to come sit down. The younger one hesitated slightly before taking the offered seat. Shinya sat starring at the floor as if Toshiya wasn't even there. The older man was looking at Shinya from the corner of his eye, analyzing him.
“Shinya.”
“I'm straight remember.” Shinya snapped.
“I know, that's not what I was gonna . . .” Toshiya shut up for a second. “Shinya, you can tell me anything you know, and it will stay between you and I. I promise it will.” Shinya looked at Toshiya. “Anything Shin.”
“He scratched me.” Shinya mumbled as he looked away.
“What do you mean?”
The bathroom door opened up and Tina was ushered out by Kyo's foot before the door was closed again.
“The zombie scratched me Toshiya.” Shinya whispered pushing the sleeve of his long sleeved shirt up to his elbow revealing a make shift band aid. Shinya pulled the band aid off revealing three nailed lines. “I'm infected.” The younger man continued to whisper.
“Oh Shinya, no. No no no no no.” Toshiya said in a whisper, grabbing Shinya's arm and it pulling closer to him to get a better look.
“I've got about a week.”
“A week?”
“Yeah, back at my camp we monitored our infected to see how long it takes them to turn, scratches take five to eight days to turn you, but you get very sick in the process.”
“No Shinya, you're gonna be fine.” Toshiya said grabbing the blanket and trying to wipe the scratches away.
“I don't want to die.” Shinya said pulling his arm away and wiping a falling tear. “But I do not want to suffer like the people at my camp.”
“You're not going to die or suffer Shinya. There's a cure, there has to be. We'll get it and you'll be okay.” Toshiya tried to stay calm as tears leaked from his eyes.
“There is no cure.” Shinya mumbled and recovered his scratches with his band aid and pulled his sleeve back down. “Kyo is going to be upset, but he will kill me and do it fast, this I know.”
“Stop it Shinya.” Toshiya lowly bit. “We're not telling him.”
“We can't hide it from him either.”
“Shinya he'll loose it and probably kill himself, leaving me alone.”
The younger man looked at the floor. “Promise me you guys will take care of Tina.”
“Stop it Shinya.”
“Toshiya, there's nothing you can do.”
“Shinya, you saved me, the least I can do is return the favor.”
“There is no returning this one.” Shinya said picking Tina up and putting her on his lap.
“There is, there has to be. I promise I'll get you out of this.”
“Don't promise me that. There's no way you can keep it. Just promise you'll watch after Kyo, yourself, and Tina. Please.”
Toshiya used his watery eyes to look Shinya in his. “I promise, Shinya.”
Kyo opened the bathroom door and walked out. The oldest man glanced at Toshiya then down at the floor. Toshiya looked at the floor too and rubbed his left arm. Shinya looked at the both of them.
“I can give you guys some space.” Shinya offered.
“Shut it bubble lips.” Kyo snapped.
“Don't be mean to Shinya.” Toshiya ordered.
“Seriously I can go look around this building with Tina.” The youngest man said.
“And what?” Kyo asked looking at Shinya. “And get attacked by another zombie?”
“I'll be fine Kyo. Trust me.” Shinya told him and picked up Tina. “We'll be back in an hour.”
“Shinya.” Toshiya said as the youngest man walked out of the room. “Please stay safe.”
Shinya nodded and walked out the door.
“We shouldn't let him go off by himself.” Kyo said looking at the door.
“He'll be fine Kyo.” Toshiya said wiping the excess water from his eyes.
“What's wrong with you?” The oldest man asked.
“Nothing.” Toshiya lied. “It's just I was so close to having sex.” He tried to laugh as he continued to lie.
“Well Shinya did leave us alone.” The older man said approaching Toshiya. “Why waste the time he gave us? Especially if you're going to cry about it.” He finished as he ran his hand through Toshiya's hair.
Toshiya blushed.
“You know you're not so bad after all.” The older man said before lifting Toshiya's head up and capturing his lips in a kiss.
Shinya cautiously walked down the hallway and to the staircase. He walked down to the next level and opened the door, after looking around he proceeded into the hallway. Shinya pulled Tina out of his bag and held her in his unscratched arm.
“Tina you're a good kitten.” He smiled.
After walking down the hallway he decided to enter a room. Making sure the tiny apartment was zombie free Shinya sat Tina down and began rummaging through the living room.
“Look Tina, I found you a hat.” Shinya said excited as he pulled an old, slightly crumpled, paper hat from a pile of fallen books.
The young man walked over to Tina who was sitting on the window and looking out and placed the hat on Tina's head.
“There.” He smiled. “Aren't you adorable.”
Tina shook her head making the hat fall off.
“Okay it wasn't that cute.” Shinya laughed and looked out the window. “Hey look Tina.” He said placing his finger on the window. “Are those people or zombies?” He asked the cat though getting no response.
Shinya squinted his eyes and watched the window across the the small alley. He seen two men inside the a room. The taller one looked as if he was laughing making Shinya sure that the men were in fact not zombies.
“Do you think they will want to join us?” Shinya again asked Tina, still not getting an answer. “Might as well see, right?” He said taking Tina off the window seal and prying it open.
Shinya pulled the screen out and grabbed a small children's block from the floor. Taking careful aim he threw the block as hard as he could across the alley and at the window, missing it. He sighed and picked up another block and chucked it at the window again, hitting the glass a little too hard causing it to bust.
“Look Tina! I got it!” Shinya shouted in triumph.
The two men approached their window and spotted Shinya waving to them. The taller one smiled and waved back before checking the alley for any unwanted zombies.
“I'm Shinya!” He called across the alley to them.
“Are you alone?” The taller one asked.
“No. I have a cat. Her name is Tina, but there's two other guys with me on the floor above. Is it just you two?”
“Yeah. Give me a minute.” The taller one took a few steps away from the window and started talking to the other man.
“You say there's two more with you?” The taller man called out after a few minutes.
“Yeah. Would you like to join us?”
“Can you meet us down in your lobby?”
“Right now?"
"Yeah.”
“Alright, see you in a few minutes.” Shinya called before grabbing Tina and heading towards the door.
“Do you think Kyo is going to be mad Tina?” Shinya again asked his cat a question. “I mean he did say to be more cautious and yet here I am just inviting people over.” He laughed.
It took a few minutes for Shinya to descend two floors and enter the lobby. The large room was decorated with the rotting corpses of the rekilled dead. He placed the cat on the counter along with his bag and waited for the two new people.
“Should caution even matter anymore for me?” Shinya asked as he patted Tina on the head. “I'm gonna be dead soon anyways.” He mumbled and pulled his sleeve up to look at his bandage. “This sucks.”
“What does?” Voice asked.
Shinya turned to see the two men from the other apartment walk in.
“Waiting to die.” Shinya said as he pulled his sleeve back down, hoping they didn't notice.
“Well if you look at it that way,” The shorter man said laughing. “In a sense even before all this happened everyone was still just waiting to die, we just had more luxuries back then.”
“Spoken like a wise man.” The taller one laughed.
“I'm Die.” The taller one said. “This is Kaoru. And I'm guessing that is the cat you call Tina?”
“Yes she is. It's nice to meet you two.”
“Well it's nice to see someone other than him.” Kaoru joked and pointed to Die who was petting Tina. “So these other two people you're here with, they're real people right?”
Shinya creased his brow at Kaoru, “Yeah, of course they're real.”
“Well you'll be shocked when I tell you how many crazy people we've ran into since this all started.”
“I believe you.” Shinya laughed.
“So these other people,” Die continued pressing Shinya for information. “They think it's alright for you to just roam around a building with only a cat as back up?”
“No no no.” Shinya answered putting his hands up defensively. “It was my idea. They both needed . . . alone time, if you know what I mean.”
Die laughed, “Well sometimes . . .” He continued to laugh causing him the inability to finish his sentence.
“Yeah.” Shinya said uncomfortably. “They kinda needed it though.”
“Okay Die, we've made him uncomfortable.” Kaoru laughed.
“Sorry.” Die offered.
“No it's okay. Really. It is. They should be done by now, you wanna meet them?”
Both Die and Kaoru nodded.
Kyo kissed Toshiya gently on the lips, “I'm sorry for being mean to you.”
“And I'm sorry for being mean to you.” Toshiya replied sitting up and grabbing his clothes.
“Not one for cuddling huh?” Kyo laughed out as he stood up and retrieved his clothes.
“I am, but not when Shinya's out there by himself with just Tina.” The younger man replied slipping his jeans on.
There was three small knocks on the door followed by Shinya's voice.
“Guys are you done?”
“Yeah Shinya, come on in.” Kyo said as the both of them slipped on their final articles of clothing.
Shinya opened the door and stepped in.
“Now before you get mad, I met people and they're both nice.” The youngest man stepped aside to allow the other two to enter.
Kyo's heart dropped. “Kaoru?”

“Shinya.” Toshiya said as the youngest man walked out of the room. “Please stay safe.”
Shinya nodded and walked out the door.
“We shouldn't let him go off by himself.” Kyo said looking at the door.
“He'll be fine Kyo.” Toshiya said wiping the excess water from his eyes.
“What's wrong with you?” The oldest man asked.
“Nothing.” Toshiya lied. “It's just I was so close to having sex.” He tried to laugh as he continued to lie.
“Well Shinya did leave us alone.” The older man said approaching Toshiya. “Why waste the time he gave us? Especially if you're going to cry about it.” He finished as he ran his hand through Toshiya's hair.
Toshiya blushed.
“You know you're not so bad after all.” The older man said before lifting Toshiya's head up and capturing his lips in a kiss.
Shinya cautiously walked down the hallway and to the staircase. He walked down to the next level and opened the door, after looking around he proceeded into the hallway. Shinya pulled Tina out of his bag and held her in his unscratched arm.
“Tina you're a good kitten.” He smiled.
After walking down the hallway he decided to enter a room. Making sure the tiny apartment was zombie free Shinya sat Tina down and began rummaging through the living room.
“Look Tina, I found you a hat.” Shinya said excited as he pulled an old, slightly crumpled, paper hat from a pile of fallen books.
The young man walked over to Tina who was sitting on the window and looking out and placed the hat on Tina's head.
“There.” He smiled. “Aren't you adorable.”
Tina shook her head making the hat fall off.
“Okay it wasn't that cute.” Shinya laughed and looked out the window. “Hey look Tina.” He said placing his finger on the window. “Are those people or zombies?” He asked the cat though getting no response.
Shinya squinted his eyes and watched the window across the the small alley. He seen two men inside the a room. The taller one looked as if he was laughing making Shinya sure that the men were in fact not zombies.
“Do you think they will want to join us?” Shinya again asked Tina, still not getting an answer. “Might as well see, right?” He said taking Tina off the window seal and prying it open.
Shinya pulled the screen out and grabbed a small children's block from the floor. Taking careful aim he threw the block as hard as he could across the alley and at the window, missing it. He sighed and picked up another block and chucked it at the window again, hitting the glass a little too hard causing it to bust.
“Look Tina! I got it!” Shinya shouted in triumph.
The two men approached their window and spotted Shinya waving to them. The taller one smiled and waved back before checking the alley for any unwanted zombies.
“I'm Shinya!” He called across the alley to them.
“Are you alone?” The taller one asked.
“No. I have a cat. Her name is Tina, but there's two other guys with me on the floor above. Is it just you two?”
“Yeah. Give me a minute.” The taller one took a few steps away from the window and started talking to the other man.
“You say there's two more with you?” The taller man called out after a few minutes.
“Yeah. Would you like to join us?”
“Can you meet us down in your lobby?”
“Right now?"
"Yeah.”
“Alright, see you in a few minutes.” Shinya called before grabbing Tina and heading towards the door.
“Do you think Kyo is going to be mad Tina?” Shinya again asked his cat a question. “I mean he did say to be more cautious and yet here I am just inviting people over.” He laughed.
It took a few minutes for Shinya to descend two floors and enter the lobby. The large room was decorated with the rotting corpses of the rekilled dead. He placed the cat on the counter along with his bag and waited for the two new people.
“Should caution even matter anymore for me?” Shinya asked as he patted Tina on the head. “I'm gonna be dead soon anyways.” He mumbled and pulled his sleeve up to look at his bandage. “This sucks.”
“What does?” Voice asked.
Shinya turned to see the two men from the other apartment walk in.
“Waiting to die.” Shinya said as he pulled his sleeve back down, hoping they didn't notice.
“Well if you look at it that way,” The shorter man said laughing. “In a sense even before all this happened everyone was still just waiting to die, we just had more luxuries back then.”
“Spoken like a wise man.” The taller one laughed.
“I'm Die.” The taller one said. “This is Kaoru. And I'm guessing that is the cat you call Tina?”
“Yes she is. It's nice to meet you two.”
“Well it's nice to see someone other than him.” Kaoru joked and pointed to Die who was petting Tina. “So these other two people you're here with, they're real people right?”
Shinya creased his brow at Kaoru, “Yeah, of course they're real.”
“Well you'll be shocked when I tell you how many crazy people we've ran into since this all started.”
“I believe you.” Shinya laughed.
“So these other people,” Die continued pressing Shinya for information. “They think it's alright for you to just roam around a building with only a cat as back up?”
“No no no.” Shinya answered putting his hands up defensively. “It was my idea. They both needed . . . alone time, if you know what I mean.”
Die laughed, “Well sometimes . . .” He continued to laugh causing him the inability to finish his sentence.
“Yeah.” Shinya said uncomfortably. “They kinda needed it though.”
“Okay Die, we've made him uncomfortable.” Kaoru laughed.
“Sorry.” Die offered.
“No it's okay. Really. It is. They should be done by now, you wanna meet them?”
Both Die and Kaoru nodded.
Kyo kissed Toshiya gently on the lips, “I'm sorry for being mean to you.”
“And I'm sorry for being mean to you.” Toshiya replied sitting up and grabbing his clothes.
“Not one for cuddling huh?” Kyo laughed out as he stood up and retrieved his clothes.
“I am, but not when Shinya's out there by himself with just Tina.” The younger man replied slipping his jeans on.
There was three small knocks on the door followed by Shinya's voice.
“Guys are you done?”
“Yeah Shinya, come on in.” Kyo said as the both of them slipped on their final articles of clothing.
Shinya opened the door and stepped in.
“Now before you get mad, I met people and they're both nice.” The youngest man stepped aside to allow the other two to enter.
Kyo's heart dropped. “Kaoru?”
