Steamer
[C is for Clients, The Office, Michael/Pam, for midnightxgarden]
After the second day stealing sips of milk and sugar from his travel mug, Pam decides that she likes it. She doesn’t like the rising before dawn any better, or the lugging of boxes from the Korean van. Or, actually, the yelling at old ladies who don’t understand a word she says. But the sweetness actually works: maybe it reminds her of some treat she enjoyed as a child, the warmth and… softness over her tongue.
It crosses her mind, later, listening to Michael dazzle yet another prospective client-turned-customer, one of those utterly immature revelations: indirect kiss. She pinks quickly, hand covering her mouth and body slumping down in her chair. “Absolutely, Carl! Your wife is a real stunner,” Michael is saying, winking at her and Ryan, something about this is supposed to be funny. But Pam just sees his mouth moving against the telephone receiver, and the foamy light taste she knows she’d find there.
This office is too small, too warm. She needs to get out, now.
