So I've just finished my first watching of the episode, and for the first time this year, I think I just might watch it a second time right away. I'm really impatient to get to know Clara better though. She still feels like a cypher to me, and that makes her much harder to relate to. For me that mostly means I'm paying attention and hoping that they develop her properly at some point, but I can definitely see how that could make this series a bit difficult.
This episode just felt back to form for me. I even liked the ending, which a lot of people seem to dislike, because I'm excited to actually see some of Clara's pre-existing relationships. With Rose and Martha and Donna we had, right from the start, an inkling of where they were from, in the sense of their relationships with their families. With Amy, we had a certain lack of that as part of the plot, but we still had Rory. With Clara, I'm not really sure. We've seen snapshots of her parents and this family that she watches the kids for, but I just feel like we haven't really got a good sense of who she is apart from her involvement with the Doctor. I'm really hoping next week will show a little more of her relationships.
I have to admit, I don't quite know what to make of the mystery we've been given. There was a time right after AotD that some people were wondering if the Doctor might somehow have a Dalek as a companion. I can't help wondering if our current story could be a bit of a missed opportunity.

Actually, thinking about it - Clara doesn't have a big enough character flaw. Being a mystery is not compelling in itself - she needs something else - a weakness...
