Berlin was such a confusing and confused place. I know it's had a short, rocky history, but something about that place... I was uncomfortable from the moment I set foot in the city, and only partly, I think, as a result of my preconceived notions. It was definitely an interesting place, and I enjoyed my time there, but I don't think I've ever had more mixed feelings about a city. Lacey and I met a lot of cool people there in the hostel, went on a walking tour, ate fantastic food, saw some great art, went to the amazing Jewish museum, and saw the Berlin Philharmonic perform. All in all it was a good trip; Berlin just instills such feelings in me that I can't begin to describe.

Pictures are online on snapfish if anyone wants to take a look.

Last night I got to talk with Kevin Sharer, the CEO and Chairman of Amgen, which was really exciting. He was giving a speech here at LSE and only 30 of us showed up, so it was basically a small, informal, ask the CEO whatever you want kind of session. He talked about corporate responsibility, strategic management, and a lot of stuff that I found really interesting. I think the most interesting thing he said was that "getting a good job doesn't require some special trick. Lots of people have the misconception that they just need to learn the trick and then they'll be set. They're wrong. It's all about recognising an opportunity and having the intelligence to either take advantage of it or reject it depending on the circumstances. If you're not failing, you're not being aggressive enough, but you have to be smart about how you fail too." This guy was brilliant, and answered some very difficult questions with ease. It was definitely interesting hearing him talk.

Oy, the work never seems to end. I pulled an all-nighter upon returning from Berlin so I could finish up my Stats final project, and now I've just discovered that I have two marketing essays due tomorrow that I haven't started yet. I suppose one of the hardest parts about this school is that none of the work is graded, so it's really tough finding the motivation to do it.

In other news, I've put together a huge list of resolutions that I want to embrace to change my lifestyle. They begin tomorrow, and I will stick to them, darnit. I'll be getting less sleep, but will hopefully be considerably more productive and get a lot more out of LSE this term from an academic standpoint than I did last term.
