Its been awhile since I've updated. This past semester has been a crazy busy one that didn't have enough time for sleeping sometimes, let alone updating LJ. But, its over now. Tests are taken, papers are written, and finals are complete. I even found out that I got a B in both of my chemistry classes. (Unlike some, I am content with B's, especially in 300-level chemistry classes).
Work may be over, but I am staying an extra week at Smith for senior week because I am playing in the commencement orchestra concert. That has been a great experience. The commencement orchestra is made up of musicians from the community and some students, and the pieces we are playing feature seniors as the soloists in the first half, and then the music department professor emeritus is playing a Mozart piano concerto in honor of her 85th birthday. A bunch of us brought our knitting to rehearsal, and we were comparing yarns and projects during the break, which was fun.
Other than rehearsals, this week has been pretty boring. I've kept to myself mostly and have been reading, knitting, and watching TV. Its nice to unwind and recharge after a tough semester. I'm going home tomorrow, and then I'll be back next week for 10 weeks of the summer.
Which reminds me, I haven't posted anything about my internship drama. I applied to several pharmaceutical companies for internships, and I got a phone call from Wyeth in Cambridge saying that they were impressed with my resume and wanted to to come to their facility for an interview. So two weeks later I took a bus to Boston, took the T to Cambridge, and went to Wyeth. It was a good experience; I got to meet three different people and I got a tour of the medicinal chemistry area, which was on the 6th floor of a giant building. I didn't end up getting the internship; I was their second choice and there was only enough funding for one intern, but I look at it as practice for next year when I am looking for a job. So, I will be at Smith again this summer, doing the same thing I did last summer. I don't mind though. After my Instrumental Methods of Analysis and Organic Synthesis classes from last year I have a better idea of what I'm doing, so I'll probably make more progress, and I can also say I have two summers worth of experience. I hope to continue this project as either a thesis or special studies project during the year. Which one it will be depends on my GPA (I'm .1 points under the limit for a thesis!).
That's enough for now, I'll try to update this more this summer. Bye!
