So, the other day, Tony commented that he wanted to learn to crochet because he wants to learn to make amigurumi stuff. Sure, why the hell not, I say. I wouldn't mind learning and I wouldn't mind learning to knit, either, so I can make cute things.
So we picked up the basics, sets of hooks and needles, some cheap practice yarn (though we also grabbed some great sock yarn that was on clearance, too, for future projects), and got some books from the library.
It's not so much difficult as it is learning to hold your hands the right way. Tony has a more difficult time, since he's left handed, so my demonistrations can be frustrating sometimes. But we got down slip knots, chain stitches, and kinda-sorts single crochet stitches. We both have trouble pulling our yarn too tight and that makes it difficult to get much done.
While Tony took a break, I managed to accomplish how to cast on for knitting. It...really wasn't all that difficult once I found a proper video. It is a bit like cat's cradle, like some of the books mention. But I can't seem to actually do a knit! I tried and tried and tried and DREAMED ABOUT TRYING. Then I woke up and looked through a few more videos and I found a good close up one that solved it for me.
Summer classes are over, which is nice. I ended up with a B in my VCD class and a C in my Theatre class. I bailed on the performance review because things just didn't come together to see it and I wasn'y going to stress over it. It's a passing grade, so I'll take it.
Fall classes start at the end of the month. I'm taking one class on campus with Tony and I'll probably go to some of his with hiim because I just like being on campus. I start work this weekend at the bookstore (which I have to keep reminding myself of, otherwise I'm going to forget!). I don't know what I'm working after Friday and Saturday , though.
I've been working a lot on my boards.
The Roadhouse has gotten a little activity and a few members have joined, so I'm hoping they'll post applications soon. I'd love to get some plot activity going. I wish it wasn't so difficult to get original characters on boards based on a series. Everyone comes looking to play canons and I'm like 'BUT THERE'S SO MUCH MORE'.
I've also been working more on my Dark Angel board,
Manticore Rising because there were people in the cbox asking about it! I was like what even is this. So I've been making it pretty gradually. Most of the information was already written up, what I've been doing the last few days is a lot of refining and making things look good. I need to make some affiliate buttons, write up setting information, and all that. I may make another advert image, I'm not so keen on the one I put together. But it's something for now, I suppose.
I have the feeling the DA board is going to be easier to get members for than the SPN board. There's only one other DA board, Pollo Loco, which seems to be active still, despite its RPG-D post not having been bumped since 2008. But, hey, variety is good. There's a good amount of SPN sites out there, so a lot of people are settled in to their communities.
I drew something! It's not much, but I'll take it. Self portrait as a Sam Winchester. Added bonus of boobs!
