Blah blah blah, I talk a lot before conventions because, apparently, I'm easily distracted from stuff I should be doing.
Room stuff was successfully transferred over to us~ It was pretty painless, too! I'm glad I was able to find something on such short notice. I was poking around to see what hotels might still have something before I got my money, but when my money hit the bank, everything was booked up. And that was, what? Last week, I think? So we got lucky.
We've never stayed at the ~Omni~ before, either.
PLUS, Squeeji's roomies all ended up with stuff that kept them from attending, so she was out a room (essentially). The fact that everything sort of fell into place is awesome.
We're leaving Thursday. Gotta take Melanie to my mom's and then finish the trek to Pittsburgh. I don't know how early we're heading out, as we can't technically (unless we're lucky) check in until 3PM.
I've been skimming over the schedule to see if there's stuff I'd like to attend. There's a Live Figure Drawing session (not the nude one, thank goodness) on Thursday at 5PM and Art Jam stuff until 9PM. There's also a Pinup Art panel at 7PM. I wouldn't mind attending the writing panels, just to...um...check that out. Yeah. I do really want to go to the Last Unicorn reading with Peter Beagle, though. The dances are hit or miss for me, but I usually check them out because sometimes there's something decent. There's a lot of people, at least, but three hours of unimpressive techno gets old at about the hour mark. If not earlier. Maybe one of the DJ's will play something, I don't know, funner. But I'm not holding my breath. BUT! There's the drum jam on the roof, and that's always fun. Though, it used to be more of a private/spontaneous thing, so having it on the schedule makes me go 'eeeh', but I'll check it out anyhow.
I usually miss/avoid the panels because I'm stuck in the AA.
I totally forgot to write about the weekend, as well.
On Saturday we trekked up to Cleveland and hit up the West Side Market, where we had tasty meat pies and watermelon soda. We also found an
amazing little bookstore where we picked up the Art of Iron Man movie art book, Blood and Chocolate (which Tony owns, but liked the cover he found) and I bought Madapple, which looked interesting. Our total was, like, $15. It was awesome.
After that, we went to the zoo. The new elephant exhibit is pretty nice. We pretty much wandered around there until 7PM and we headed up to Beachland. While there, we checked out a little music store,
Music Saves, where I acquired the single for Iron & Wine's Walking Far From Home (HAVE I MENTIONED I LOVE THIS SONG??) and Okkervil River's Black Sheep Boy.
I love, love, love So Come Back, I Am Waiting by them, and I love, love, love the lyrics in the album, but I've the feeling the sound of some tracks will have to grow on me. But that's how it was with So Come Back..., anyhow. It took me a little for it to 'click' and then I absolutely adored it. A lot of music can be like that for me, though.
I could listen to Walking Far From Home forever, so there's no complaints there.
So at Beachland, we waitied through the opening band (Forgotten Souls of Antiquity) which was...a chore. The swing band for the burlesque show (Madison Crawl) was awesome. However, the burlesque show was less than stellar. I guess I was expecting more, maybe? I just wasn't very impressed.
So we went up to Bounce and even that was a disappointment. As usual, Kari Nicols was dancing to P!NK, because that's the only musician she knows. The crowd was all under 21, it seemed, and there were a lot of overly drunk and obnoxious girls because someone was having a bachelorette party, I guess. Either was, it was obnoxious and not the crowd I'm used to (which is a good mix of people).
After that, we decided not to drag the night on, went home and crashed.
I've been procrastinating on all the ~stuff~ I have to do before the convention, which is pretty typical of me. A lot of things will probably get done today, though. God willing.
I've been gathering up art stuff to take if I do Artist's Alley. I have a bunch of original sketches, some colored scrapbook-y style stuff and, if I do commissions, they'll be art cards or small index card sized things. Nothing that would take a lot of time or patience, at least, and I can direct all larger things over to Squeeji.
I have to run out this morning to Hobby Lobby for slipcovers for smaller art pieces and some egg-themed fabric for Tony's Quiche suit. For a scarf or a bandanna or something so he has an accessory.
I also need to finish the Steve/Ginny/Anthony badges that I found from two years ago!
Also, I hope my RAM comes today. /crossing fingers
