[ click through for my actual commission page ] So I finally got around to re-doing my commission page. These are my discounted holiday prices (with freebies, too!!) because I need the monies and it's not the end of the world for my to drop my prices for a little bit. I'm hoping it'll get some people interested.
I spent, like, almost all day yesterday on this and I'm pretty proud of it. It's half InDesign (for the placement and text and all that) and half Photoshop (for doing the slices and making it pretty for the web). I included some of my non-furry art on it too, so people could see I CAN and will do non-furry stuff.
In life-stuff, I don't have class until Monday (huzzah!). Tony got a job at the local Walmart. I've been putting in lots of applications, but I'm hoping the Walmart will open some more positions and I can get in there because it'll just be easier. Giant Eagle called me, but it's been hell to find where to call them back at because they don't have HR in the stores anymore and all that hiring stuff is done through corporate. I deleted the voicemail when I recieved it because I was under the assumption all I needed to do was call the store back and set up an interview. But that wasn't the case and the manager was completely unhelpful.
I have a little more money towards the rent thanks to a friend, but I'm still $160 short. Which is an immense pain in the ass. I haven't gotten paid from my art modeling assignments yet. Which is even more of a pain in the ass. If it doesn't show up this weekend, I'll have to go raise hell at the career services office because that's almost $100 I'm waiting on.
Classes are going okay. Unfortunately, I'm rocking a D in my Art History class, which really sucks. My downfall is dates and locations. I can tell you all sorts of weird shit about any of the paintings, but I can't remember which Renaissance period the piece was done in and that's a good part of the exams. There's one more exam and I kind of have to pust ass remembering every little detail in order to pull my grade up to a C so I don't have to retake the course.
My VCD exams are horrendus. Okay, so. I do really well in my VCD class. All my assignments have 100% on them, it's an EASY class. But the exams are hell. He wants us to remember things verbatim out of the reading material we have and, apparently, 'crowding' and 'clutter' are not the same things and the latter is not acceptable as an answer for the question. BUT THEY ARE THEY SAME THING. I don't know, I'm frustrated with the exams because I KNOW the dos and don'ts of graphic design, but I'm not going to remember words I'd never use for the elements of design or the principals of design or whatever he's pulling from the readings. On the up side, my average in class is still a B. It SHOULD be an A, though, but those exams really fuck me over.
First Exam: 99.00 (out of 99.00)
Selection Tool Notes: 100 (out of 100)
APPLE CUTOUT: 100 (out of 100)
GOLFER: 100 (out of 100)
Second Exam: 55.00 (out of 100.00)
cavs pdf: 100 (out of 100)
Int-Resume: 100 (out of 100)
Non-Designers 6-10/Interactive Steps: 37.50 (out of 100.00)
See, my first exam was AWESOME because we ended up having to do it over the weekend, so we could use our notes. The second exam, as you can see, was terrible because it was a lot of stuff VERBATIM from the material we had to read. Same with the third one. Now, I read the material, but I don't remember things word-for-word. If a word seems strange to me in context, I'll use a different word in place of that that means the same thing. You know, ONE I'LL REMEMBER. So it's frustrating because I feel there should be more SHOWING that we understand graphic design and less that we know the VOCABULARY. Anyone can throw out some buzzwords and sound like they know what they're doing. Not everyone can actually implement it into the design itself.
So I'm hoping for more projects and I'm REALLY hoping he has us design something on our own because that's what I'm really waiting for. I mean, it's obvious by my other grades that I KNOW what I'm doing. Like I said, I do like the class a lot, but the exams are making me go fhklgdlkgfhlfd. We did learn how to do interactive PDFs for resumes, so I think I'm going to updated/revamp mine and start using it.
I also have to go to financial aid and see if I qualify for the Last Dollar Scholarship. Basically, it's donated money from the community and such that can be used for students who have fees needing to be paid at the college. I owe $128 on my tuition due to a mix up on their end (they didn't pull it out of my dropped class refund before it was issued), but I still have to pay it by the end of the semester (middle of next month). Apparently, the average grant that students have qualified for is, like, $1500. So hopefully, since what I need is such a small amount, I'll be able to take advantage of it.
In other non lame or school news, I've started a tumblr for my character ramblings and stuff:
http://junkbones.tumblr.com/ It's a lot of imagery and just chatter about my headpeople and maybe a little bit of writing (more of which you can find over at
ragged breath. It's pretty fun, I like talking about my characters A LOT and it also helps to flesh some of the less developed ones out some.
Now, it's time to finish cleaning downstairs. The whole house is almost clean! Excitement! And then, Supernatural in two hours!!
