Reading totals:
- "Frank Sinatra's Gum" - Kelly Simon
- "Girl" - Jamaica Kincaid
- "Mom" - Anne Lamott (have not yet written a reflection)
- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams (~60 pages)
Random rants:
- Lol at plebs who really think IVs don't matter in competitive Pokemon, then spew shit like, "stats are nothing compared smarts" that make it very obvious their Pokemon don't have decent stats and they possess no smarts
I'm an angry person by nature, I think. A combination of my genetic temperament and my upbringing (probably) has instilled in me an overactive sense of right and wrong. This has nothing to do with right or wrong from a moral standpoint, but more of a fact or, well, non-fact standpoint, which makes me angrier because this is not Sartrean philosophy. This is your elementary school two plus two and idiots still get it wrong.
I know I titled the section "Random rants," but that's only because I saw the post in the Pokemon trading group I often, and it pisses me off because posts like this are written on an almost bi-daily basis. Then, after writing that point and refraining from wielding my fingers like a personally injuring weapon (and instead commenting something along the lines of, talking to people like this is like banging your head against a wall), I realized I couldn't really think of anything else that was worth a rant. Not at the moment, at least. Which is, in and of itself, weird because, again, I'm an angry person by nature. I've usually got at least one or two stupid driver rants, but today's stint on the road was relatively uneventful. (Though there was a bicyclist after sundown with no reflective gear on either his bicycle or his self who thoroughly freaked me out, but, Darwinism? I'm kidding. I don't wish death on anybody, not even a bicyclist who clearly has no sense of self-preservation, given that he actually merged into a center lane with his lack of reflective gear.)
But as for someone who clearly knows what IVs are and what they do, saying something like, "ITS A DAMN POKEMON... ALL POKEMON ARE THE SAME DAMMIT!" (direct quote - I know the difference between "it's" and "its") just makes him come off as... not the sharpest pencil in the box? No, they are clearly not the same. Because one is better and one is worse. Sure, you can battle with worse Pokemon and be decently successful, since most people who Pokemon battle suck ass, but that does not make your inferior Pokemon as good as an IV bred Pokemon. If you don't want to spend time breeding perfect Pokemon, well, that's your own choice. But that still doesn't make your inferior Pokemon as good as an IV bred Pokemon.
What's more, why is it that people always feel the best way to decide who's right or wrong (on topics such as this) is through battling each other? Especially when it comes to something as cut and dry as this. Your level 100 Charizard does not have stats as high as my level 100 Charizard (I don't actually have a level 100 Charizard, as it is one of my least favorite starters - but, if I did, I'd mega-evolve it to the Y version). They are not the same.
I might say that daring to say such a statement is a true testament to your own pent up feelings of inadequacy at your inferior Pokemon. This is what leads you to want everybody else to have inferior Pokemon as well. But this is venturing away from elementary school two plus two, and you probably wouldn't get it.
