Today was surprisingly okay. o.o;
WE got our scheadules after Channel One, and mine was SUPOSED to be all the same, but instead of Model UN, an all-year elective, I had Introduction to Web Design. o__o;
No good.
So, I talked to Miss. Kimmly about it during lunch, and she said if I got both Mr. Rich and my parents to sign a permission slip allowing me to chang classes, then I could do it.
However, our maps are due on Monday and ours is no where CLOSE to finished, so I explained the mix up to the Web Design teacher, and she allowed me to be in MUN today. ^_^
Back to first period.
The first thing we started talking about was Persuasion essays.
Now, unless its something I care writing about, I don't like persuasion papers, but then I realized that it was almost exactly like editorials, which I'm good at since I'm really opinionated.
After going over the basic structure, we all started debating on topics to have for our first paper.
Here were the things that we basically decided on:
*Taking out 'Under God' in the Pledge of Allegance (contributedf by Kendrick Campbell - the future first woman president. >>)
*Being forced to say the Pledge of Allegance in school
*The ban-ment of books in some libraries (contributed by me)
*Texas government taking out the coke machines because kids are getting 'too fat'
I also suggested the gay rights and abortion controversies, but the teacher said where as that would be good to write about and debate, that it wouldnt be appropriate for school because they're -too- controversial.
Kendrick suggested immigration, and something about the US and the Tsunami releif drive in Asia, but all of the kids said that those were 'too complicated' to write about it. oo;
In the end, everyone got to choose whether they wanted to write about the cafeteria thing, or the ban-ment of some books in some libraries.
Of course, I chose the ban-ment of books thing. o.o;
I think its dumb that they want to get rid of the coke machines, and yet they sell us ice cream and chilly cheese fries at lunch, but its not like I'm gonna protest over it or anything. o.O;;
Math we just went over our becnhmarks, which I failed with a 62, and it counts three times. x.X;
Luckily, we get to go back and make corrections to improve two of the three grades.
History we just talked about the Tsunami, and how lucky we were to have the life that we do, and then we went over our benchmarks there as well.
In newspaper, we just discussed who was gonna do what for the Valentine issue.
I'm doing the Fant Smart memorial article, since this month has been three years since he was murdered, the history of Valentines Day, and the love edition of the Advice column. o.o;
In MUN, we were informed that we have 18 school days - thirteen and a half hours - till competition on January 31st and Febuary 1st.
Tomorrow we'll start learning about Parlimentary Procedure and will have a test on it next Tuesday, and then we'll go over and rehearse scripts and resolutions for debate.
We leave at 8:00 on Monday, the 31st, and will be back by the time school lets out, and we'll do the same thing on the 1st, so we get to miss school - Woo!
Miss. Kimly also said that our PSAT scores were put in the mail yesterday, so I should be getting those sometime this week.
Gotta go work on that paper!
