[Sheik is feeling unnaturally verbose, likely because in comparison to the usual, he hasn’t heard anything from his other half for about a fortnight. Well, not enough to truly constitute as anything. He’s had more than enough time to witness the tragic events aboard and the victory that’s followed after

You are precisely who I was looking for. The Princess has had the opportunity to come back. I didn't force myself into the position this time.

She didn't want to?

She hasn't said anything...

[It's less a question, more a statement of understanding.
Now Jak's concerned.]

...I suppose I cannot hold her entirely at fault. It's only natural she would want to close herself off from the world. It's not something that should be allowed, but it's understandable.
[He pauses.]
It's not as though she's dead, Hero.

[But would she come back? Maybe she was another person to come and go in his life. The thought leaves a bitter taste in his mouth, and even though it's something Jak is more than a little familiar with, he won't take it lying down.]

If she feels she can. She doesn't. That's why she hasn't.

Shayn and Asad are dead, we took care of them. The ship's as normal as it can get. I'll --
[He grunts and bites off the sentence. He can say "I'll protect her", but he didn't, did he? Fine. Maybe she didn't feel she could come back yet.]

[He plucks the strings of his heart wordlessly for a few moments before he can use the words he wishes to.]
I have something I want to say to you. Not here, however. These are words you need to see me say in order to believe it's me saying them and not her.
I'll explain what I can, if you wish to know as well.
[Sheik knows. Really, he does.]

[He's cautious, but he is somewhat curious to meet Zelda's protective personality.]

[Can you guess where he is, Jak? There's an echo of water. Nothing else. No birds. No wandering footsteps. Just dripping water. And an echo.]

Half an hour later, he wanders down into the caves, wearing full armor. It might be unnecessary, but he has clashed with Sheik before, and he's got no idea who he'll be meeting. He'd rather not take any chances.]

Sheik does, however, make it a very blatant point to look over Jak. To really get a good look. He's a strapping lad, the Sheikah thinks, and it's easy to understand from a first look how Zelda admires him.]
I was unaware I would be putting that garb of yours to test.

[Jak stops a few feet away, setting his hands on his hips and inclining his head slightly. Sheik is well covered, his face wrapped so Jak can barely see what he looks like. But even then, there's that slightly piercing look, the sunny yellow hair; Sheik even resembles Zelda in some ways. He's not particularly physically imposing though, so Jak finally shrugs off his caution and sits down on the rocks, facing him.]
I didn't know you played.
[He gestures to the harp.]

He nearly chortles. There's something interesting about sitting with this young man. Sheik's no fool. Jak's older than him. He can see it now. He can feel it. He plucks a few strings of his harp.]
I play as much as the princess does. Although I'll wager you didn't know she did. Not... a harp, of course.
