That's very true. Some people haven't given up hope yet. Knowing that you aren't alone should offer at least a little ease. I would hope.

That's a long time to be trapped here. ["Do you feel like we're any closer to escaping than a year ago?" is what he doesn't ask.]

It is. If it weren't for the others aboard, I might not have handled it so gracefully. I'm thankful to my friends I've made. I can understand, however, altogether too well how it feels to want an escape.
