The other is that the first story is just that, a story, made to have the Christian religion implement an old pagan fertility holiday known as Imbolc.
Either way, the holiday is generally a celebration of love and affection between couples. Gifts are traditionally exchanged, usually flowers, cards or chocolate. It can be a display of romantic affection between married and courting couples, of friendship, or a day to declare romantic aspirations on someone.
