It’s the one place where she doesn’t have to hide.
Of course she uses a different name, and a fabricated past; but at times such as these, when she’s safely wrapped in Roger’s arms, Catherine lets herself believe the lie - if only for a little while. Tomorrow she will return to work, her businesswoman shoes impeccably shined, her pencil skirt resting precariously at her knees, and her hair perfectly coiffed.
Tomorrow she will see him again - and it will be about restraint.
She knows this, and yet she doesn’t let the anticipation ruin the moment. Roger kisses her lightly on the forehead, having noticed that she’s no longer asleep, and she makes a pleasant sound in response.
“How long have you been awake, darling?” he whispers into her ear.
“Hmm, not long at all,” she smiles, turning her head to look up into his eyes - large brown eyes that are so full of love that it makes her catch her breath.
This was real love. It had to be.
“Worrying about work again?” his smooth accent caresses her - a reminder of home.
“Yes, I’m afraid I am a bit,” she admits. She cannot lie to him, though there are questions that she’s been assured he’ll never ask.
“Then I’d wager I’m not doing my job properly,” he smiles devilishly, lifting her chin to bring her lips to his. It’s the softest, sweetest kiss she can hope for, and as it deepens it sends a delicious thrill throughout her body.
You’ve told me what you do. Isn’t it just helping lonely people?
Pathetic, self-deluding souls.
She cries out when he’s inside her again, her hands fisted in his hair. He knows just the right places to touch, and the right things to say, to make her forget herself - to make her forget the Dollhouse - to make her forget him - to make her forget that this isn’t real.
“My beautiful Catherine,” he says lovingly. “Tell me what you need.”
