Hello All,
I recently found out that I was admitted to Oberlin, and thus I have been scouring the website/wiki/blogs/livejournal pages ever since. I have read just about all that I have been able to find regarding residence halls, and I was hoping ye knowledgeable Obies could share your thoughts on the different dorms.
It seems like the freshman halls are almost constantly loud, obnoxious, and everything is covered in urine (at least according to a few sources). I generally like quiet and calm (I'd rather sit around in a room and talk than get plastered and break things), but I also want to be able to get to know my classmates. The non-freshman traditional housing seems pretty cool for the most part, specifically Fairchild, but I don't really want to be stuck with only upperclassmen who already have a group of friends. There's something reassuring about living with a bunch of people who have as little of an idea about what's going on as you do...
So, having actually lived in these dorms, what might be your recommendations? Are the stereotypes true at all, or are they just a product of the fact that students will find absolutely anything to complain about?
