"Obi-Wan, you know I love you, right?" He had nodded. Of course she loved him. And he loved her. "Then you won't take it the wrong way when I tell you to get out. Now. Please. You're driving me up the wall."
And that was how he had come to find himself standing outside the entryway of their shared quarters at 500 Republica, blinking like a dumb Rodian who has just been taken for all he had.
What did he do?
He had done nothing but cater to Padme's every wish, every desire since they had found out that she was pregnant. He had insisted on fluffing her pillow each night, tucking her in every time she lay down for a nap; bringing her her favourite tea when she wanted something hot to drink, fixing her every imaginable meal he could think of; he picked up gifts for her and the baby...
So what did he do?
"Master?" Anakin's voice caused Obi-Wan to jump. "Are you okay?"
Smoothing his uniform and straightening his robes, he smiled at his former Padawan. "I'm fine, Anakin."
"Good. I'm here to take you out for the afternoon. Padme's request."
Obi-Wan groaned. "Don't tell me she commed you just now?"
"Fifteen minutes ago. She said to expect you shortly. And she was right."
"Only because she kicked me out. I'm trying to figure out why."
"What did she say?"
Obi-Wan quickly related the brief conversation and Anakin started laughing. He pulled Obi-Wan down and out of the building, wiping tears from his eyes. "Master, you've been driving her nutty ever since you found out she was pregnant. At first, she welcomed it because she was scared, and it made her feel better, but now that she's almost due, she just can't take it any more."
They settled on a park bench somewhere between Padme's and the Temple. Anakin regarded Obi-Wan for a long moment, smile affixed on his face. "I should have warned her about your tendency to dote on people."
"I do not."
"Do to. Remember when I came down with the Nuna-pox...?"
"That hardly counts as 'doting'."
Anakin laughed. "Even after the fever broke and the purple spots went away, you insisted on sitting at my bed-side. I had to comm Master Windu while you were fixing lunch to save me."
"You little brat. You're the reason why I spent six hours in the most boring of lectures on the planetary rotation cycles of Coruscant and her moons and how they affected the galaxy?"
With an impish grin, Anakin nodded. "Yep."

DAYS LATER
************
Anakin and Obi-Wan were in the Healer's Ward Ante-Chamber. Obi-Wan had his hands tucked in his robe and was pacing; Anakin was sitting cross-legged on a cushioned chair watching. The younger man was almost mesmerized by the elder's walking back and forth and back and forth. Finally, he shook his head and blinked his eyes.
"Obi-Wan, sit down. When they're ready for you, they'll come get you."
As Obi-Wan threw a glare over his shoulder, the Healer-On-Duty laughed from her spot at the Administration Console. "Ah, young Anakin. You ought to know your old Master better than that."
At Anakin's raised brow, and Obi-Wan's horrified look, the Healer continued, "Yes, he's almost single-handedly put that rut in the floor, what from all the times he sat out here waiting for you."
Obi-Wan promptly sat in the nearest chair, muttering something that sounded like, "did not."
Anakin tried to hide his smile, but failed. "So he's done this before, Madam Healer?"
"Oh yes. I recall one mission you returned from when you had been rendered unconscious with sever head trauma. We had to kick Master Kenobi out of the Ante-Chamber about fifty times before he finally got upset with the staff."
Anakin's lips witched. "Master...got upset? With the staff?" He glanced at Obi-Wan. "My Master? Upset with Staff? Here, in the Temple?"
"Oh yes. Told us in no uncertain terms that he would stay here until we let him in to see you."
Obi-Wan's fierce blush was more than enough proof of the Healer's words. Anakin burst out laughing, and almost fell out of his chair.
The elder man was saved having to reply by the door opening. "Obi-Wan, your wife is asking for you. It's time..."
Obi-Wan fairly flew into the room, which only made Anakin laugh harder.
