-----------

A lot of things bring people together. United underneath the banner of a particular existence, love can blossom in the most unlikely of places. So it is without surprise that he finds himself drawn to her under the emblem of grief.

It had started out as a mere mutual drowning of sorrows; she had access to the Palace's stores, so it was no surprise that she was able to procure something potent. Hiding in a secluded garden, of which there were many, they sat and shared stories of recent events.

He spilled his heart out; he told her of how much his Master had meant to him, of how much he resented the youth that had come between them. She confessed certain, romantic feelings for said youth, but she empathized nonetheless.

He smiled sadly at her admission and told her that she was lucky to have found someone while still young. He had never had the time or the inclination to even look. It was a blessing to have it fall into your lap.

It may have been the alcohol, but really, they hadn't had all that much. She caught his face between her hands and gazed into his sorrow-filled eyes; her eyes spoke of compassion and the promise of healing. It was then that the warmth of her breath upon his lips gave way to soft pressure.

The tenderness of the kiss made him want to cry again; he wanted to unleash all of the pent up emotions that had been placed within his being, and her sweet, soft lips made him lose control in a way he never had before.

His arms wrapped around her and he clung to her, his salvation. Her tongue caressed his lips as she smoothed away the searing sting of the kiss. He opened his mouth to capture her tongue and feast upon her mouth.

He wasn't sure how it happened, but they were now laying down, the grass cool beneath them. Her hands parted his tunic, unraveling the once neatly worn uniform. He tugged her nightgown over her head, marveling at the perfection of her body as each inch was exposed to the night air.

She tugged off the remainder of his clothing and then wrapped her body around his. They loved each other many times over that night, underneath the pale moonlight in the garden. This was the first time for both of them and it was all the more precious because of it.

He never wanted to let her go; if he did, he feared that he would let go of himself...
