Is my router dying?

Sep 22, 2004 14:06

A few weeks ago, Cox.net started offering faster download speeds to all level of subscribers. At the same time, I began experiencing an issue where I would lose my connection to the internet. If I went into my router's wizard setup utility and reran the script, the connection would come back. There were days I had to reset the settings at least 5 times. Now, there are times when I actually have to change the Mac address that my router is spoofing.

I called Cox and they said it's a router problem. I wrote to Netgear and they said to update my firmware, something which I had already done. I wrote back and asked for further help. They said call in. No offense to anyone, but I'm not calling India for tech. support.

The router is a Netgear RP114. I'm running Windows XP SP1, browse with IE 6, and use Netscape 7.1's mail client. There are two other systems on the network which experience the same issue, obviously.

Anyone have any ideas? Having to reconfigure the router for each outage is extremely annoying!
