Turns out a lot of kids in college are stupid. Look! I have examples!
Someone from the career center came to talk to my business class today, and one thing she did was ask each of us to introduce ourselves, telling our majors and what we planned to do, career-wise. Later she had us do a worksheet rating our priorities on certain qualities of a career (location, moral fulfillment, money, responsibility, etc. - all already listed, not coming up with any on our own).
Example #1:
I think five kids in the class listed their career goals as "Own my own business." Only one of them had a specific business in mind without being prompted. Seriously, what kind of goal is that? That's nothing more than, "I want to have a job." Dumbasses. Do you think you can just open some random business, see what people walk in, and then decide what to sell them? You need a little more of a plan, guys.
Example #2:
After we did the worksheet, she called on much of the class to share our top three priorities. One person said, "X, Y, and social activism." Explaining the importance of social activism, he said it was really important for him to be social, to interact and work with a lot of people on a day-to-day basis.
I'm pretty sure I made a really obvious, "ARE YOU SHITTING ME?" face. You're in fucking college and you think social activism means "hey guys let's party!"?
The funny thing is that the presentation ended with the career center lady talking about how ISU is a top target for business recruiting because such high-quality businesspeople graduate from here. I remain unconvinced.
