I would like to point out, for those of you who did not know about this, a strange person in African politics.
Hussein Farrah Aidid. He is the son of Mohamed Farrah Aidid, who was the target of the ill-fated US Operation Restore Hope in Somalia, which was portrayed in popular cluture by the book and subsequent movie rendition, Black Hawk down.
Although he is heir to his clan Hussein is also a naturalized U.S. Citizen (came to U.S. when he was 14) and is a former U.S. Marine. He spent his teen year in West Covina, a neighborhood in the LA metro area (where some of my relatives live). When his father died, he was elected by his clan as a successor, and he accepted. He is currently in exile in Ethiopia.
