Trailer for the new Brideshead Revisited is now up, starring Ben Whishaw as Sebastian Flyte and Matthew Goode as Charles Ryder. I've made some caps from the HD version of the trailer, which can be downloaded here.
OMG, that trailer gives the most ridiculous, Hollywood version of the BR story that I have ever seen. The only thing I can say (apart from the prettiness of the leads) in its favour is that I like how they seem to have place some emphasis on Lady Marchmain (Emma Thompson). This clearly does not compare in any way at all to the masterpiece TV series.
Ha ha and the golden lettering. 'One man's ambition'- which makes Charles Ryder seem like some kind of cunning man trying to rise up into high English society. Yeah, right.
I'm intrigued how they're going to treat the R word though.
All those words and phrases that kept popping up...all the stuff about ambition and power... -is at a loss for words-
It's strangely upsetting how it's the same but not the same. Which is what I should have expected, I know, but seeing Castle Howard and hearing lines I know and love only coming from different actors is really weirdly unsettling.
What's also rather strange is that Ben Whishaw irritates me a lot less than everyone else. If anything I should find him the most irritating, seeing as I'm such an Anthony Andrews fangirl.
O_O Ok wow. The first word that comes to mind is "disaster". I've been waiting for the trailer for ages and now I don't know what to make of it, is it for real ? The music is hideous. Thank goodness for Emma Thompson. I don't recognize the plot. I have never seen the miniseries (and I don't want to, the clips I've seen of it weren't appealing at all) but I'm not sure I want to see that.
Er...that's weird. All the things I was worried about and it never occured to me that they would make the story about social ambition! I'm really not sure what to think about that. It looks like it will have some good points - God help me but Ben looks like he might be alright.
Oh dear, they make it sound like some kind of murder mystery :/ But then again, trailers are very deceiving, and I should very much hope the actual film flows in a different vein.
And I can't help being insanely excited and nostalgic as I was there in Oxford watching them film several scenes &hearts

I'm still not sure what to make of this.

I am guessing the religion part of the book is not a part of this story?? Too bad, I will miss all of the black baby Cordelias. ;-)

A bit speechless, actually. Didn't expect that.
